Find Out Who's Googling You!
Wednesday, October 1, 2008
A sneaky new Internet service acts like a kind of online caller I.D.
Next time you feel like Googling that long lost ex-boyfriend from high school, think twice. He might be signed up to a new service that will alert him, via email, anytime someone is searching for him on the Internet.
For $4.95 a month, the online social network Ziggs tracks anytime your name is entered into a search engine and will send an alert back to you with the location of the computer used for the search. Creeeepy.
"You shouldn't actually think that just because you are on the web you are completely anonymous," said Tony Czupryna of Naymz -- another company that offers essentially the same service.
On the flip side, we're thinking this new technology can feed your inner narcissist -- finding out how many times your name is plugged into Google could be a huge ego boost. Let the spying begin!

so what? it’s the same as caller id — just caller id for the web.

This story is misleading. They alert you when your Ziggs profile is accessed. Not anytime searches your name in Google.
