Live Like a Veep

Fancy suits and expensive hair do's (and that's just Joe Biden) -- the vice presidential hopefuls look like they're living large. But where they come from may not be much different from where you live.

When it comes to candidates' hometowns and backgrounds, our friends at Realtor.com break it down for us:
- Governor Palin's tiny hometown of Wasilla, AK nearly became Alaska's capital in a narrowly defeated ballot initiative in 1994.
- A recipient of Realtor.com's Find A Neighborhood "Fast-Track Families" designation, Wasilla is composed mainly of upper-middle-class income families with numerous children living in spacious homes. This demographic profile certainly describes the Palin family of seven, who occupy a home appraised at $550,000 in 2008, sitting on a 2.1 acre lot in a town where the average home price is $135,000.
- Senator Biden's Wilmington, DE home has doubled in value since he purchased the home in 1996.

- Wilmington is home to many "Upper Crust" US couples, a label used on Realtor.com's Find A Neighborhood to describe people enjoying the wealthiest lifestyles in America. Upper Crust neighborhoods contain the highest concentration of residents earning over $200,000 a year or possessing a post graduate degree ― usually empty-nesting couples over age 55.
- Joseph Biden has been consistently ranked as one of the least wealthy members of the Senate, with a net worth reported to be between $59,000 and $366,000. However, Senator Biden's Wilmington home, estimated at about $700,000 in value, wasn't figured into his net worth.
LOL - another right wing biased article? It says Biden is one of the least wealthy in the senate. Where is the bias? Katie, you’re clueless.
I didn’t realize until now that this site is controlled by Republicans. Thank you for making this clear!
HAHAHAHAHA. You ladies are funny.
This is the most bizarrely written article ever.
What does a McMansion in Alaska and a house in Delaware have anything to do with whether or not either candidate are capable of doing their job?

No, not at all. For me what matters is their values and life experiences. I wouldn’t say that Palin is as “american folk” as they make her out to be. Her home is almost 5 times expensive as that of the locals. Is she really one of them?
Interesting that you did not mention what the local home prices in Biden’s neighborhood go for. Probably because his home right in there with the average price. His is worth more because he lives in area that has access to big cities. Palin lives in the middle of nowhere.
Again, another right wing biased article here.
By the way did anyone pay attention during the debates. Bidan said his life’s investment is his house. I am a middle class person and all of my money in the investment in my house.
I don’t hold their housing prices against either one of them.
