"Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven and a half years of marriage," their reps said in a joint statement. "They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time. A final settlement has not been agreed upon yet."
Rumors of a split have been circulating for months, amid reports that Madge had an affair with baseball star Alex Rodriguez. Ritchie denied the chatter at the 50th birthday party he threw for his wife, and at the time, Rosenberg said their marriage "does not need saving."
Theu decided to go public with the split now because a source says they "can't bear to live with the pretense any longer." The couple reportedly argues nonstop about the amount of time each devotes to their careers and over Madonna's desire to adopt another child. The disputes have reportedly ruined their attempts at reconciliation "like a sledgehammer," according to another source. They "can now barely bring themselves to say two words to each other."
Madonna also has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, with dancer and former fitness trainer Carlos Leon.
