Mary Poppins, Eat Your Heart Out!

Stressed out about what to expect and what you'll need when your baby finally arrives? Listen up, moms to be. The Baby Coordinators can save you time, money and a massive amount of anxiety.

Kristin DiCicco, a 27-year-old nanny, says the idea came to her while she was watching Rachel Ray: "Rachel had on the Baby Planners and I looked at the tv and said, 'hey - I can do that.'" And she sure did. Joining forces with her friend and fellow nanny, Paula Sterling, the two women teamed up to form The Baby Coordinators.

"We see so many moms-to-be who are overwhelmed. They go into Babies "R" Us and they walk down one aisle and the walk right out. There's too much to choose from. It's hard to make decisions."

That's where the Baby Coordinators come in. "I've pushed every stroller, I've used every bottle and binky. I can tell you what works and what doesn't. Sometimes these moms to be are the first of their friends to have a baby. Sometimes they don't have friends or family around. They need someone who can help them."

But binkies and bottles aren't the only things new moms often need help with. Baby Coordinator services also include coordinating your baby registry, baby proofing your home, showing you what you need to keep at grandma's house and even preparing the family pet for your newborn's arrival. "When you get home from the hospital, bring the baby's blanket to the dog so they can become familiar with the scent."

And since we all know how expensive all that baby stuff can be, Kristin wants to help new moms buy products that work and are worth the money. Some of her must-haves include:
*Baby Bjorn sling. The baby can nap in it and it's a great way to keep your hands free. She also loves their bouncy seat -- called the Babysitter 123 -- since kids can use it up to three years old.
*Diaper Dékor - this is a great diaper pail that hides odors and is really easy to use.
*Graco products - they are not necessarily the most expensive ones on the market -- and while they are not cheap, they are always reliable.
*Summer Baby Monitors - These are great hand-held video monitors and really easy to use.
*Maclaren strollers - They built well and are easy to maneuver.

But not all products are created alike -- and Kristin says some are just plain old unnecessary. "There are things you just don't need, like a baby bathtub. It works just as well to wash the baby in the sink. You also don't need those sleep positioners or swaddling blankets. You can use a regular blanket to swaddle a baby, you don't need those expensive ones that do it for you."

The Baby Coordinators are based in Massachusetts but offer telephone consultations nationwide. Their fees range start at about $75 and can reach into the hundreds, depending on the services they provide. To check out The Baby Coordinators website, click here.

I think this is a great idea!! It is so hard when you have your first kid. I didn’t even know what I was having. I would go into places like Babies R Us and just roam around and then leave without anything. The night our son was born my husband went out and got everythig. The car seat, clothes, bassinet. With my daughter I was prepared. I worked at a retirement home and they had a huge baby shower for me. I got tons of stuff and I took back all of the stuff I knew I wouldn’t need and stocked up on things I knew I would need. Like nursing pads. I didn’t want to come home from the hospital and then have to run to the store and get them. I learned that the hard way.
