Momlogic's Julie: What do you do when you can't decide on a baby name?

baby

I went to visit a friend in the hospital who had just had a baby two days prior. When I asked what his name was, she said he didn't have one yet. Oops.

The baby had come a few weeks early and she and her hubby hadn't reached a final decision on a name. Now the pressure was on. She said every few hours, the nurse would come in and ask for the name so that paperwork could be completed. But this was one decision that just couldn't be rushed!

My friend's not alone: Actress Brooke Burke took nearly three weeks to name her son Shaya Charvet. "We waited our whole lives for our son, and couldn't find the perfect fit," she said.

The whole time I was at the hospital, my friend's husband was furiously typing in baby names into his laptop to find out meanings. Their goal was to decide upon a name before they leave the hospital on Wednesday.

Did you have trouble deciding on a baby name?

I had trouble. I’ve always wanted a baby girl and when she finally arrived I couldn’t find a name perfect enough for her. Eira-lynn Rose is what we finally decided on the day we left the hospital, two days later.

For our second son we had picked Dustin until he was born with red hair … I didn’t want his nickname to be Dusty… or Rusty… so he went unnamed for 3 days. We finally decided on Chandler…

With my 2nd child, my water broke four weeks before my due date. We did not know if it was a boy or a girl. We had a girl’s name picked out, but were still undecided on a boy’s name. We had ‘fun’ during labor, making lists, and talking with the nurses about boys’ names. Several hours and an ‘emergency’ C-section later….we had a girl. :) (We hadn’t decided on a boy’s name, before I went in for the C-section.)

I knew as soon as I was pregnant it was a girl, and I knew she would be named Sona (Gaelic for happy) to counterbalance my miscarried Natesh (sorrow)

During the time of pregnancy, the names of boy/girl should be selected. Then only we can fill up the documents issued by the hospital. Every one should follow this procedure. Why should we waste our time just for selecting names?

With our first child, we didn’t know if it was boy or girl. I thought girl and had alot of girl names picked out. So when he came out, I was stumped. My husband just blurted out Lucas Payne. And it’s fits now that he is 6 and sometimes a pain. It flows well with our last name when I’m angry too. We were torn on what to name our daughter. MY hubby wanted to name her after his grandma, Kathryn, our son wanted her middle name to rhyme with his and he picked out Rayne. So she ended up to be Sophia Kathryn Rayne. It’s a mouthful. We call her SophieKat.

I think its important to try to have a name picked out. I have 3 kids and we had several varieties of how we wanted their names. When we got our first look at them, we chose the names that we thought fit the best.

My due date is today and me and my husband don’t have a name for our baby girl yet. This is our first girl. We want the name to be a good fit for our daughter. I have been looking high and low. I don’t know what to do at this point. I would like to name her first name with a letter A and her middle name with a letter D.
