Missing NYC Teacher Says She Had Amnesia

Hannah Upp, the New York City teacher who disappeared days before the start of the school year and was later rescued after jumping into New York Harbor, says she had amnesia. According to her Facebook page, 23-year-old Upp was suffering from a condition called "dissociative fugue" when she was found in the waters off Staten Island 19 days after she vanished. "As is typical of a case of dissociative fugue, I was not aware of my own identity and I emerged from the episode with essentially no memory of what happened during the time I was missing," the Spanish teacher wrote. The disorder causes sufferers to forget their pasts and suddenly run away from home and is typically triggered by trauma or stress.

This is not unusual for those who have this event. There is a long list of missing students. Most like Upp walk away taking almost nothing.
Subliminal Distraction, discovered when it caused mental breaks for office workers, is the most likely explanation. Upp was a grad student and would have behaviors to allow this exposure. Only an interview with her would reveal the entire picture.
