Obama Suspends Campaign to Visit Ill Grandmother


Barack Obama will put a halt to his presidential campaign for two days this week to return to his native Hawaii to be at the side of his "gravely ill" grandmother. Madelyn Dunham, 85, was released from a hospital last week and returned to her home in Honolulu after breaking her hip. Obama's decision to cancel campaign events "underscores the seriousness of the situation," a senior aide told reporters. According to Obama, Dunham, his maternal grandmother (who he called "Toot"), was in many ways a surrogate parent.
