Palin Halloween Decoration in Bad Taste?
Wednesday, October 29, 2008
People getting into the Halloween spirit sometimes get a bit too creepy.
Halloween is the only time of year you can transform your home into a haunted house -- the creepier the better. But where do you draw the line?
A man in West Hollywood, California is under fire for displaying a life-size doll of Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin hanging from a noose. Behind her is an effigy of John McCain, engulfed in flames, emerging from the chimney. Chad Michael Morrisette, the creator of the display, defends his macabre installation: "It's Halloween time. It's time to be spooky." Not everyone is amused. The mayor of West Hollywood, Jeffrey Prang, has asked the Morrisette to take the installation down: "I strongly oppose political speech that references violence."
Politics aside, some of the decorations that are up in people's yards this year are pretty friggin' scary. Automatronic skeletons that move when you walk by can really freak out younger kids.
Maybe it's time to just go back to putting a pumpkin on the front stoop and calling it a day?
