Red Wine Lowers Lung Cancer Risk in Men

Men who consume red wine in moderation have a significantly lower lung cancer risk, according to the October issue of cancer Epidemiology, Biomakers & Prevention. "An antioxidant component in red wine may be protective of lung cancer, particularly among smokers," said research scientist Chun Chao, Ph.D. Researchers reported a 60% reduced risk of lung cancer among smokers who drank one to two glasses of red wine per day. Chao warns that these findings should not be interpreted as a recommendation for heavy alcohol use, adding stopping smoking is the best method of reducing lung cancer risks.
