Some Parents Peeved About Transgender Teacher

A teacher's gender reassignment surgery has caught the attention of some parents who want to know why the school district didn't notify them ahead of time about the change. A music teacher at Foxboro Elementary School in California, who was formerly a woman, returned to school as a man at the beginning of the school year. The teacher is now being addressed as "Mister."

Some parents told Travis Unified School District that they feel like their rights to know were violated. "All the information came straight from our kids and didn't come from the school board or the teachers ... this has all been second-hand information," parent Melissa Oiland said.

Would you be mad?

Of course I would NOT be mad… why would I be? It doesn’t make the teacher any less of a teacher… he is the same teacher as he was as a woman.. same education. I think making a big deal about something like this is just showing the kids at that school that it is “wrong” to do what the teacher did… and it’s NOT! Would the parents be just as upset if the teacher “came out of the closet” during the summer and the school board didn’t personally deliver the news to the parents? A teacher’s private life is none of their business… unless it will affect the students (ie that the teacher is a sex offender or something) So short answer… NO I would not be mad. It isn’t the school board’s business to worry about something so minor. If we want to teach our children understanding and love, we should start showing it ourselves.
