Study: Marriage Ends After 2 Years, 6 Months, 25 Days

Researchers say the average couple gives up on romance just two years, 6 months and 25 days into a marriage as husbands give up trying to be tidy, and wives no longer make an effort to look nice for their other half. By the third wedding anniversary, 83% of those surveyed say they can't even be bothered to celebrate the date they wed. The poll of 5,000 couples who had been married for over a decade revealed that more than half felt undervalued. Seven in ten men admit they're so comfortable with their spouse they frequently leave socks, pants andother dirty washing laying around the house. 79% say they no longer bothered putting the toilet seat down. Two thirds of wives say they no longer make an effort to look nice for their spouse, while 54% no longer bother wearing make-up. 61% admit they wear comfy tracksuit bottoms or pajamas as soon as they get home from work. During the first few months of marriage, 83% of couples held hands while out, compared with just 38% after a decade. Partners would cuddle more than eight times a day before the first wedding anniversary - compared with five or fewer after ten years. And 60% of those surveyed say they haven't been surprised with a romantic night out since getting hitched. The infamous battle for control of the TV is another sticking point, with 75% of men and women saying they wouldn't relinquish the remote control to their other half, even if they asked nicely.
