These Booster Seats are Unsafe
A new review of car booster seats finds that some of them do a poor job of positioning children to fit in their seat belts.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute say 13 booster seats don't put children in the best position to be protected in a crash. See if yours is on the list:
Compass
B505
Compass B510
Cosco/Dorel Traveler
Evenflo Big Kid Confidence
Safety Angel Ride Ryte
Cosco/Dorel Alpha Omega
Cosco/Dorel (Eddie
Bauer) Summit
Cosco Highback Booster
Dorel/Safety 1st (Eddie Bauer)
Prospect
Evenflo Chase Comfort Touch
One manufacturer on that list, Evenflo, says it conducts extensive tests of the seats and says the study was "misleading." Another, Graco Children's Products, says "safety is always a top priority." Other child seat manufacturers say their products meet and exceed federal regulations.
It was the first time the Insurance Institute issued evaluations for booster seats.
