One woman guilty of bad online behavior may be put away for a long time.

A Japanese woman was arrested for "virtual murder" after she became so angry with her recently divorced "online" husband that she killed his digital persona.

The 43-year-old piano teacher used her online husband's password when their characters were happily married to kill the character in the game called "Maple Story."

The man complained to police when he discovered his online avatar was dead and the woman was jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," she told investigators while admitting to the allegations.

Officials say the woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world but if convicted, she could face up to five years in prison or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in "Maple Story" create and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting monsters and other obstacles.

More and more women are getting addicted to virtual worlds like "Second Life" ... and are taking them very seriously. Are you one of them?

You have GOT to be kidding me!!! It isn’t real!!! She is facing 5 years in jail for killing a non-existing thing? The woman that skinned her son and ate it was only given 9 years! What the hell is wrong with this picture?! Our world needs some serious revamping!!

She is facing prison time and a fine for

‘illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data’

which is a crime, not the actual killing of the virtural person. The title of this article is purposly misleading to get attention.
