He will be the 44th president of the United States. Watch as he addresses the huge crowd gathered in Chicago.

Barack Obama was elected the nation's first black president Tuesday night in a historic triumph that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself.

The 47-year-old Democratic senator from Illinois sealed his victory by defeating Republican Sen. John McCain in a string of wins in hardfought battleground states -- Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Iowa.

A huge crowd thronged Grant Park in Chicago to cheer his improbable triumph and await his first public speech as president-elect.

Just very proud of the choice that Americans made. Seemed as if Americans were wearing blinders in the voting booth the last couple of elections. Right on Obama…we are ready for change!

Having grown up in the era of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., believe me when I say that Obama does not even come close. Obama appears to be “trying to emulate” MLK, but he is only delivering what a bunch of other guys, including many who are white, write for him. Dr. King wrote his own speeches based on profound beliefs gained from invaluable experience. Obama, who has been elected mostly by college-age people and African Americans voting on race, and a bunch of inexperienced writers will never, ever accomplish the deep understanding and profoundness that comes from true experience, no matter how much they study and copy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others of his caliber.
I will also add that, having watched that overdone acceptance celebration in Chicago, the most moving part was seeing Jessie Jackson with tearful eyes.
