Guest blogger Gina: Yesterday's news of Elliot Spitzer's prostitute's interview spread faster than a venereal disease. Dupre apologized to Elliot's wife, Silda Spitzer. Today there are rumors that the Spitzers' marriage is suffering because of that interview. Wait. That's why they are having problems?
Apparently the Spitzers "were rocked" after reading about Dupre's apology which comes out in tomorrow's People magazine. The NY Post reported that yesterday was "a bad day for (The Spitzers)" -- implying that this interview is causing problems in their marriage. Yeah. That's the problem.
What does Ashlee Dupre really have to do with their marriage -- I mean REALLY have to do with it? I get it. She was the mistress, but she was a paid mistress. It's not like she courted him for months knowing he had a wife. She may as well have been a blow up doll -- one who has to pay rent. It's not like Ashlee Dupre and Silda Switzer were friends. Dupre didn't even know who he was! I don't think an apology is in order.
I'm not saying Dupre should be out of the news. I agree that she is a big part of the story. I couldn't wait to see the first photos of her and I still click to enlarge that stupid MySpace picture in every article I read. I, like most, wondered what kind of girl would be a prostitute? However, I never once thought that she owed Spitzer's wife anything -- not even an explanation. He's the one who lied and cheated!
I am excited to see Diane Sawyer's interview with Dupre on "20/20" this Friday. I think that over time we'll realize that this was simply a case of a young girl trying to make a buck who just happened to be put in a situation with a really stupid and clearly unfaithful jerk. It's Elliot Spitzer who should be apologizing to Dupre.
