Did Casey Cuddle with Her Lawyer Behind Bars?

New reports say Casey and her lawyer may have more than just a professional relationship.

Casey Anthony and Jose Baez

Rumors are swirling that Casey Anthony, the mom accused of killing her three-year-old daughter Caylee, and her attorney Jose Baez engaged in close, intimate and possibly inappropriate embraces while he visited her in jail.

Media reports say lawyers are never supposed to touch their clients -  especially like this.

•According to WFTV, Baez and Anthony "were too friendly during their visit" and a corrections officer at the jail even had to separate them. Baez said he didn't know the rules and begged a guard not to write up the hugs. The guard wrote that Baez was "upset as he hugs all of his clients." We spoke with Allen Moore, a spokesman for the jail, who denied this report, saying at no time did an officer have to separate the two.

•Videotape of their "intimate meetings" has been recorded, but "their potentially damaging alleged love tapes are not available."

However, jail officials saw no romance in the hugs.

•"Despite the report that aired on one local TV station, there is no public record to support that these two incidents were anything more than social hugs or comforting hugs," jail spokesman Allen Moore said.

•Moore also told WKMG that Baez had been cooperative and professional when approached on the issue, and jail officials consider it a closed matter.

But a viewer had complained to the Florida State Bar about Baez's behavior after seeing WFTV's initial hug report Thursday night, and reports say the Florida Bar could even revoke Baez's license.

When is a hug just a hug or an ethical lapse?

Casey Anthony sure knew how to play the men in her life. She was dating one guy, maintained contact with her “ex-fiance” and showered at the home of another. Baez has no class. He should’ve kept his mouth shut from the beginning instead of dishing out this B.S. about how we will finally “understand Casey and her behavior” at the end. It’s bad enough we have to hear that from George and Cindy. How he can hug that monster is beyond me.

Casey and Baez are scum. Disbar him and give her the needle. I can only feel so bad for the grandparents. Get your head out of the sand and face the music

Doesnt anybody remember the Nancy Grace story about the witness of Casey coming out of the woods with a shovel and a bag? There was an VERY WELL-DRESSED MAN watching out and pretending to be fishing. BAEZ? Who else!! Honestly? When exactly did they meet and why did she retain his services?? Maybe he is representing her for his own self preservation!

Oh my gosh, Some will run with anything and try to get ratings and readers. I have worked around lawyers for years and some hug their clients when their clients are stressed or sad and others have a strict hands off policy.

It is not unethical for a lawyer to give his client a social or comforting hug and it means nothing.

Baez may not be the best attorney or the most practiced one but he is not scum. He is doing his best and I do not, even for a second, believe he would have an affair with Casey. He isn’t going to lose his career for a moment of fun.

Any time Casey is around a man, remember the bounty hunter who drove her?, she tried to flurt or play him. Her actions towards her lawyer does not surprise me at all. Look at how they hold hands through out this whole ordeal. Why are people just now noticing this. I saw this coming a long time ago.

Linn - While it may not be unethical for a lawyer to hug his client,(like at the end of a tral and they win), it is improper to hug inmates and against the rules. Baez was warned by jail guards not to hug his client on two seperate occassions. The reason? To prevent contraband from being exchanged.

If blatent disregard to follow established visitation rules is not unethical, it is at the very least inappropriate.

Since you have worked around lawyers for years you may want to caution the ones that hug their clients when their clients are stressed or sad and suggest the strict hands off policy.

You don’t believe he’d give up his career for an affair? How many Senators have been found guilty of such an thing? C’mon it’s possible.

Laura is totally correct. From the beginning of the investigation and whenever she spilled the hundreds of lies, she seemed flattered by all the male attention. To a person who obviously has no value on anything others are simply inaminate objects whom she feels she can manipulate. From the time he escorted her to transport vehicle, baez obviously was too touch-friendly because she invites that type behavior. Yet if he had any sense at all, he’d know that it is unethical. IMHO, it would take a complete psycho to show affection for anyone such as her. Suppose the attorneys “hugged” scott peterson or susan smith? How totally absurd. Quite a collection of lunatics: casey, cindy, george, lee, and now gourd-head baez. Far too much valuable time and finances wasted on showcasing this bunch of lunatics. Practically made super stars of nut case(y), cyclops cindy, goony george, lying lee, and now the high tech gourd-head “esquire.”

Flash - You see things that other don’t I just love your depiction of the Anthony team. Especially cyclops Cindy. So Funny…..
I think Baez does have a thing for Casey. I wonder how his wife feels about all of this. You would have to be completly blind to not see what it going on and also, to have any defense at all of her.
All the tips do not come into the sheriff’s office. Only Cindy knows about them. She is lying lying lying. If she really believed Caylee was alive she would be pleading for her safety on t.v. instead of pleading her daughter’s case. How would anyone react who really thought their baby was with a kidnapper? they never ‘talk’ to the kidnapper. they spend their time blaming LE and the media. ANYONE would go public and beg for her return. they never do. Because they know she is gone. they are all certifiably bonkers. REALLY CRAZY

johns November 4, 2008, 7:14 AM

Could this be why while Casey was at home arrest she would spend up to six hours a day in Baez’s office, behind closed doors? Everyone wondered why a client would be there sooo long everyday with their attorney. Maybe now we know! I think he should be removed from the case. PERIOD!!!

Barbara in Indiana November 4, 2008, 7:45 AM

There must be 100’s of lawyers in Orlando….why did Casey hire a lawyer in Kissimee? Surely she must have “known” him previously, wouldn’t you think??????????

After reading up on the Susan Smith case, I can’t believe the similarities between Susan and Casey! The info is at
Good grief! Since Smith has been in jail, two guards have had to be disciplined for having sex with her!
Smith is the survivor of long and enduring sexual abuse by her stepfather, a sacrificial lamb on her family’s altar, allowing her mother and her siblings to maintain the much higher standard of living provided by that wealthy pervert of a step-parent than the one they originally came from.
Sexual abuse is so devastating to the victim.
I’m firmly convinced, in my own mind, Casey was sexually abused as a youngster. When and how, by whom, and how long, one can only guess. Her behavior profile, aside from the murder, is also practically a carbon copy of the behavior of other sexual abuse victims I’ve known. It’s a terribly traumatic thing to have gone through. People who have not lived it have no idea.
I often vascillate on this point as the crime was so gruesome and coldly calculated. I would have an easier time with my attitude towards that troubled young woman if she confessed.
Smith apparently killed her kids while under a lot of duress from the rejection of one of her lovers. Casey left with Caylee after an altercation with her family. Some wrecked-up psyches can have very little, in terms of resources, when put to the test…

To all bloggers and hopefully attorney Jose Baez is reading as well. Like so many people, I’ve been following this story since it first made public. Initially, we saw pictures of Caylee, Casey, family members, friends and Jose Baez. However, it wasn’t until her last arrest, when she was “maybe”trying to run away, that I could see her up and close, while her attorney gave a press conference.
Although I was impressed by the fact that she is prettier than I thought, I never doubted that something might have been going on with her attorney. What is it with her case manager? 7 hours every day at her attorney’s office? This is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!!! I can assure you, that these considerations are not given to any other person.
With this being said, I hope that Mr. Jose Baez, is not from Puerto Rico, because, honestly, it would be a shame for those, who like me, are part of the legal system and absolutely find his behavior UNETHICAL! Needless to say, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! Can you imagine, what may have happened behind closed doors? Remember, bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, said, when Casey was out on bail in home confinement, Jose Baez and she, would spend lots of hours in her room, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS as well! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! If something is going on beyond attorney client matters, he would be the only and only GREAT HUGE GIGANTIC LOSER! and Casey would just have added 1 more to her extensive and crazy SEX LIFE!
Life in Prison without parole, will NOT be JUSTICE!!!!! She deserves NOTHING but THE WORSE!!!! November 7, 2008, 11:25 AM

The first time Baez “hugged” Casey, he slipped her a cell phone for her to text message her family/accomplices where Caley’s body was so that they could go find ut and get rid of it before Equisearch finds her body this weekend. The second time he hugged her, she slipped the phone back to Baez.
Why else was her father out at the site looking around? How else would he know where to go ?

deb November 9, 2008, 4:37 PM

I agree totally with the theory above mine I think her father and mother are helping her for her to avoid life in prison or death because they have already lost Caylee the grandmother is a nurse and her 911 call tells it all and her father is a retired homicide detective and now they don’t want to lose their daughter but she will get what she deserves

TrustEngGod November 11, 2008, 9:33 AM

i knew he was or a least she was hot for him the first day he walked with her out of jail …that pic shows a time right before or after she literaly

bella  November 13, 2008, 5:06 PM
