Why is Casey's defense team changing its story?

Despite claims as recent as Wednesday that missing toddler Caylee Anthony is still alive, mom and accused killer Casey Anthony's defense team now has a new story.

In a 30-page document sent to prosecutors, her lawyers argue that if Caylee is dead, "it was almost certainly a tragic accident." The documents state Caylee could've been poisoned by chloroform or she could have died while she was sedated. Their bottom line: The cause of death may have been an unwitting overdose of a sedative.

Huh?

The documents describe Casey as confused, possibly even depressed. They say Casey's behavior had been erratic ever since Caylee's birth and especially in the months before the little girl vanished. Also that Casey's lack of emotion after Caylee's disappearance is proof that Casey is not normal and could be suffering from mental or emotional stress.

Why the new story? Reports say Casey is trying to avoid the death penalty.

• The defense says the death penalty is not an appropriate sentence in Casey's case because she is a young mom and has never had a criminal record. However, the documents never mention that a babysitter had kidnapped Caylee, the story Casey has used -- until now.

Even more shocking: In an attempt to evoke sympathy for Casey, her lawyers plan to show the jury photos of her as a baby. The photographs show Casey, 22, as an infant, playing with her brother Lee, and surrounded by family members.

Casey Anthony is GUILTY, and her defense team is finally admitting that fact. Now if only George and Cindy would stop drinking the Casey Kool-Aid!

No, she is not mentally ill. She is a liar. She is just getting scared now that she might get the death penalty. If she had told the truth from day one, she might have gotten a lighter sentence. Too late now. Your party days are OVER!!!!!

Casey Anthony is a cold and calculating woman.She is NOT MENTALLY ILL. Casey had her wits about her.She knew how to lie and cover up.She wanted to go out and have a good time and Caylee was keeping her from doing that. On the recipe page for clorform it stated that it was to be kept away from children.She knew better.Also seditives( if that’s what was used)were not prescried for Caylee. Where dd they come from. Bottom line, she new what she was doing was wrong and could endanger her daughter. Don’t try the tragic accident therory. Casey Anthony deserves the same thing she gave her helpless child. DEATH

Are you seriously asking us if she is mentally ill? Even if some of us were mental health professionals (which I am not) how can we answer that question without examining her. I am horrified at the death of a child, but I am not without sympathy here. Because it certainly seems like no mother in her right mind would intentionally harm her child.

She is young, and made a TERRIBLE mistake. I’m sure she realizes it by now. She can be forgiven by God though. She CAN! But will she humble herself, own up, and ask for forgiveness? That will be her choice. Okay, I’m waiting to be slammed now..

I hope she burns in hell for what she did to Caylee. I always thought that she would make a deal with the prosecution….showing them where Caylee is buried in return for the state not seeking the death penalty. Casey is a self-absorbed, pathological narcissist with no regards for anyone (not even her baby)but her homicidal self. She has here baby’s blood all over her hands.

this woman is a black widow!! she did the crime and now must do the time, and I think she should be put to death for the death of her beautiful baby girl… so what i understand is that this witch wanted to go out to drink and party it up at a bar… but she couldn’t get a sitter so she decided to sedate her daughter??? does anyone else see anything wrong with this???

Why should she even think she should be spared her life. She knew everytime she drugged Caylee that there was a possiblity she could never wake up. And why refer to her as a young mother. SHE KILLED HER CHILD, she does not deserved to be called a mother! So what did she do with her? Feed her to the alligators? Bury her, perhaps even while she was alive and could have been saved? Put her body in a dumpster? No MOTHER I know would ever do this to her child. She is guilty and should be punished to the fullest. A month!! A month and she is finally going to come clean to spare HER life—I don’t think so.

She is not mentally ill. She is a sciopath. This is a personality disorder; not a mental illness.

well there is obviously SOMETHING wrong with her…but personally, I don’t agree that mental illness is an adequate defense against the death penalty. the law only addresses the moment the crime occurred, unless they can prove premeditation, in which case she cannot claim mental deficiency. I think people like this give the truly mentally ill, young moms and the American justice system a bad name

“…a tragic accident,” my foot!! The very idea that she gave Caylee any kind of sedative and left her unattended demonstrates a blatant disregard for her daughter’s safety. Who knows whether this was one time too many? And to say that she doesn’t qualify for the death penalty because she’s “young” and doesn’t have a “criminal record”: baloney!! She’s over 21 and yes, she does have a criminal record (theft).

Probably Casey because she thought it was a way to make her child sleep so she could go out and party. So she is still GUILTY!!! Let’s say that nobody gave her this sedative/chloroform and somehow the baby got into it on her own… At what point do you decide to get rid of the body instead of calling 911 to help your child???

YES I ACREE WITH EVERY COMMENT HERE…..SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING….TRYING TO COVER UP MURDERING LITTLE CAYLEE….SHE IS IN THE ARMS OF JESUS….SHE IS BETTER OFF WITH HIM….SHE WILL PAY FOR LIEING TO THE POLICE…SHE WILL SERVE ALOT OF YEARS IN JAIL….PARTY IS OVER CASEY…..
