Atlanta police confirmed on Sunday that Def Jam Executive Vice President Shakir Stewart died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found in his bathroom on Saturday, where he was then rushed to the hospital for his fatal injuries.
"Whatever happened over the past 24 hours is not a testament to who we all know," Christopher Hicks, one of Stewart's long time friends, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday. "He was a one-of-a-kind individual."
The 34-year-old is known for making Atlanta prominent in the music scene. Stewart had important roles in the signing of Def Jam stars such as Rick Ross and Young Jeezy.

I pray for his family that all is well with them. How sad. May he “rest in peace”.

May he rest in peace. I will pray for his family and friends. He is in a better place and his watching over all those he signed to his label and he is watching over his family and friends.
