Showtime's 'Dexter' Allegedly Inspires Copy Cat Killer

In a horrific case of life imitating art, a Canadian film maker has been charged with murdering a man in what appears to be a "Dexter" copycat killing. The suspect, Peter Twitchell, is described as an avid fan of the show.
The murder allegedly mimicked a script police found in Twitchell's home. The script is about a cheating husband who is lured into a garage and murdered after falling for an internet dating scam. Twitchell has been charged in the murder of Johnny Altinger. Altinger reportedly went out on Halloween night thinking he was going to meet a woman he had met on line. Altinger's body still has not been found but police arrested Twitchell after finding the script which described the killing in graphic detail. The killer in Twitchel's script works for the police, as does Dexter in the Showtime Series.
A copycat killing is apparently something Showtime producers have always feared. "This is a tragic and horrible thing to hear," "Dexter" producer Melissa Rosenberg said when she learned the news.
I love that show however I know the difference between real and pretend!!! we see violence every day, and that is just on the daily news shows. Accountability??? Christina
Please check your facts Altinger did not go missing on Oct 31st. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/2008/11/01/edm-altinger-murder-charges.html
Oh and another thing, the accused’s name is Mark Twitchell. I know reporting sensational stories can be a good buzz topic while new moms have play dates,or during scrap booking parties or knitting circles, but to clearly ignore details just so you can use the copycat cliche is truly shameful.
well…he was just stupid to do that!
