Fashion Designer Convicted of Sex Assault

A fashion designer that once appeared on "America's Next Top Model" has been convicted of sexually assaulting girls and women, some of them aspiring models.

Prosecutors alleged 34-year-old Anand Jon Alexander -- known as Anand Jon -- lured women and girls to Los Angeles with the promise of jobs and stays at ritzy hotels. When the women arrived, however, cops say he raped and sexually assaulted at least seven victims ages 14 to 21.
After deliberating for nearly two weeks, a jury found Jon guilty of 20 of 23 counts, including forcible rape and committing a lewd act upon a child. He could be sentenced to life in prison.
Jon was well-known in celebrity circles, and worked with such people as Paris Hilton and Mary J. Blige. Born in India, he graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York and launched a fashion line in 1999. Newsweek called him a person to watch and labeled him and up-and-coming designer to watch.
Beverly Hills police began investigating Jon in March 2007 when a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by the designer in his apartment. He is also under indictment in New York on similar charges involving nine women and is under investigation by authorities in Texas and Massachusetts.
