Liz Romero reportedly told investigators in Arizona that her 8-year-old grandson was capable of killing his father.

When she learned that her grandson was charged in the shooting deaths of his father and another adult male she cried out "I knew this would happen". "They were too hard on (the boy). I knew (the boy) did it. He spent the night in my bed cuddling up to me. I had a feeling he did it. If any 8-year-old boy is capable of doing this it's (the boy)."

According to police the boy said he was spanked 5 times the night before the murders for not bringing home some papers from school and said "his 1,000th spanking would be his last."

The boy was temporarily released from jail so he could spend Thanksgiving with his mother.

A hearing in the case is schedule for December 8th.

So sad that a child can be abused so much that he’s driven to such a violent act. An eight year old is a work in progress and I hope he can be saved.

If his father was abusing him and people knew it then why didn’t someone try to protect him. This poor child is emotionally scarred. I do hope that one day with lots of therapy to work through everything he has gone through he will be able to live a normal life. Though I do not condone murder, I just think maybe he was so confused and hurt he didn’t know what else to do. He’s just a baby.

If the kid was tallying the spankings, that’s pretty desperate. For an 8-year-old kid to organize himself that way is almost unheard of. Kid’s don’t keep journals that way, in general.

My theories on this incident change every day, but from the beginning it’s only confirmed my view that spankings don’t have any meaningful benefit and young children shouldn’t be allowed to use firearms.

People can argue that this kid is a sociopath, but there would have been some sign of it before this. Someone would have come out and mentioned that he was a troubled little boy. His grandmother’s fury makes me think that it was rather the father who was troubled. Young children with sociopathic tendencies have a real problem hiding those tendencies. Abusive situations, however, are frequently under the radar of outside observers.

I don’t see how anyone’s heart doesn’t ache for this boy. Something went terribly, terribly wrong in his life. THat much is clear, even if we don’t have the full story.

As someone with ADD, I can’t help but wonder if he has a similar problem. I would forget things all the time as a kid. My parents never spanked me, but the reproach was agonizing. I tried my best, and they worked with me. But what if they’d spanked me instead? I would have been scared to even go home. I guess we will know more as facts emerge.
