I'm Voting ... But, Don't Ask Who For

Sunday, November 2, 2008

Working Moms Against Guilt blogger Cara: You won't find a McCain/Palin sign in my yard. You won't see a Obama/Biden bumper sticker on my car. I'm voting on November 4... But, I'm not telling you who for.

Some people may think I'm dim because I rather not talk about politics in public. Yes, I'm quite aware of the issues, the state of the economy, and that this is the most important election of our time. But, I like to keep my political views personal.

I'm surrounded by both Republicans and Democrats. Everyone has an opinion, and while I respect their stances, I can't stand when someone gets all political preachy. Good for you if you like to voice your support for a particular candidate. That's great. But, once people get insulting, I tune out.

Call me a coward. Call me a secret McCain supporter. Call me a liberal Obama mama. Call me whatever you want. Just don't call me to sway my vote. My mind's made up -- and it's none of your business.

i would have to disagree- why because i like to disguss things. The truth of the matter is that it depends on the people you are disgussing this sort of thing with. If you are talking to immature people you are going to hear things like “Obama is a terrorist” or “McCain is another President Bush”. If you are talking to mature people the conversation can become very informative and you are going to hear things like- “I didn’t hear about that, let me look that up on the internet”, Making people actually looking at the cannidates for themselves and not simply following the biast media- leading to more informed voting choices and more conviction in the voting booth. I say this not to bump your choice on not voicing politics but to simply say that discussing politics is not all that bad either. I can totally understand your viewpoint, however, because I do hate when people make stupid, pointless remarks that are uninformative and are only an expression of your their own personal emotional views on the cannidate.

THANK YOU!!!! i responded to a blog the other day about this as well (i feel my political views are personal and will really only talk with my family about them) and i was told by someone eles that it was because i was embarassed by who i was voting for! NO SO! i just don’t feel i need to talk about it with people i don’t know very well, or even with people that i do know pretty well, people get down right rude about these things, and i don’t feel the need to put up with it or defend my beliefs!

I AGREE…but think it is because politics have become so divisive. Wish we could become like kids and talk freely about our candidate of choice and the issues-as I wrote about in my WriterMomMusings blog about Kids and Politics - instead, we get labeled if we are for a different candidate than is the popular one …

Yes, thank you! I hate discussing politics, but my best friend LOOOOVES to talk politics. Of course, her political opinion is the opposite of mine, so I always feel uncomfortable when she blasts my point of view or presses hers. Despite my attempts to explain myself to her, she still brings up the subject. I just don’t know how to get through to her!
