Laura Bush Lines Up Book Deal for Memoirs

Laura Bush is a hot commodity for publishers and is lining up a multi-million dollar book deal to write her memoirs.
Her lame-duck husband, however, may not see such a book deal for the tale of his plagued presidency for several years.
"The wives of presidents generally write books that have a greater public interest," literary agent Mort Janklow said. "Wives usually write from a personal point of view - instead of talking about government policy, they talk about when the dog came to the White House and had to be paper-trained. Husbands usually try to rewrite history."
A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll found 76 percent of Americans disapprove of President Bush's performance in the White House.
"In time, there'll be interest particularly in how it went sour." said Ken Sunshine, a public relations expert. "But right now, [Bush] is at such an abysmally low approval rating, I don't think anybody thinks he could sell two books."
