Now that Obama has won, McCain bows out gracefully. Check out the video.

Sen. John McCain on Tuesday urged all Americans to join him in congratulating Sen. Barack Obama on his projected victory in the presidential election.

"I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face," McCain said before his supporters in Phoenix, Arizona.

"Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant," he said.

McCain's running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, was standing with him, but she did not speak.

McCain called Obama to congratulate him, Obama's campaign said. Obama thanked McCain for his graciousness and said he had waged a tough race. President Bush also called Obama to congratulate him.

At several points during the speech, McCain was interrupted from inaudible screams from the crowd. At one moment, McCain said "please, please" in an attempt to to silence the hecklers. He urged his supporters to move beyond disappointment and reiterated that America is a nation of people who persevere and never quit.

What did you think of McCain's speech?

I appreciate the respect that McCain himself has shown in his speech. His supporters, however, leave much to be desired. I understand that they’re disappointed, but Obama’s going to be our president for the next 4 years (at least!), so they need to get over it!

McCain shows Gore how it should be done, with honor and grace. Congrats to Barack.

McCain’s supporters leave much to be desired for you? Really? Huh that’s interesting because it wasn’t McCain’s supporters that were the reason for the police ans swat teams preparing for the possibility of riots if he lost. No, it was Obama supporters who threatened to riot nationwide if he lost.

where's McCain now? November 7, 2008, 10:16 PM

I was a McCain/Palin supporter and of course I was disappointed that he didn’t win. But I have to say that while I was very much impressed with class and grace of McCain’s concession speech, I have wonder where the hell he is now! And why the hell isn’t he standing up for Governor Palin? His campaign staffers are trashing her to save their future careers and he is no where to be found. It seems he is dumping her in the ditch in the same manner that he dumped his first wife once she was of no use to him either. That doesn’t seem too honorable to me.

Mac has probably been trying to work through his own emotions after realizing his time has past for seeking the presidency. I say that with all sincerety because I am and continue to be a Mac supporter. He did issue a public statement on Friday, Nov. 7, in support of Gov. Palin. —Regarding Natalie’s comment about McCain supporters being disappointed, attitudes such as yours promote division and increases the likelihood that you will be hearing the same and worse as Obama’s administration progresses. Prepare yourself!—
