Tammy Smith is facing five counts of child abuse and malicious assault after allegedly burning the word "wimp" into her 6-year-old daughter's neck.

An employee at the child's school noticed the burn and contacted police. The 6-year-old reportedly told authorities her mother got angry with her when she tripped and fell. The girl was placed into foster care until further notice.

Tammy Smith is being held in a West Virginia jail on a $50,000 bond.

Just goes to show you everyone’s not cut out for parenting. Someone should burn IDIOT on the mothers forehead. Lord bless the children. Amen.

This is just sick. And the thing is, this woman will never suffer as much as her daughter, no matter how long she spends in jail. The emotional side effects this child will go through will be with her forever, not to mention her poor neck. Once again, if you cant raise your children, if you dont love them, give them to someone who will!

OMG! That’s awful :( That poor little girl. And into the foster care system is just so sad, I hope she gets a good home.

This was something the woman worked up to. I can’t imagine the six years of evil, sin and pain this women has inflicted on this baby. I want to help this child. Hug, love and cry with her so that she knows that a mother’s love is not what she’s known. I only take comfort in knowing our Awesome God has perfect vengance while a prison is just to good a place… Please tell me some foster parents down the road don’t hurt her too. Who ever has her please love and be kind!

I currently have this little girl. She is being well taken care of. yes, I am a foster parent. Not all foster homes are as scary as you see on TV. I have adopted four wonderful boys that went through abuse, they are wonderful children. My wife and I are not able to have children, so we decided to adopt only, however, after seeing all the children that needs a loving home, we have decided to start fostering. It is a wonderful experience.
