Stop skimping and start savoring. Domestic goddess, Nigella Lawson loves her food ... as well as a good laugh. She's saucy, spicy and sweet -- just like some of her all time favorite recipes.
Never one to mince words, the British bombshell and chef wants women to start savoring their food instead of slaving over it. "Stop denying yourselves the simple pleasures in life." Nigella insists. In case you're wondering -- chocolate and cake are two things Nigella insists we would all benefit from indulging a bit more in. "When you deny yourself time and time again, you'll end up eating the whole cake one day instead of enjoying one piece as we are meant to do," she told Momlogic as we watched her whip up a chocolate pear cake in a test kitchen at the Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan. And yes, Nigella ate three bites while our Momlogic producer scarfed down half the cake.
As a mother of three, Nigella knows firsthand how hard it can be to find time in our busy day to make time for a healthy meal. But her latest cookbook, "Nigella Express -- Good Food, Fast" is a how-to for women who want to minimize effort but maximize taste.
For those of you who stress out simply by the thought of making a meal from scratch, fear not. Nigella says a little planning goes a long way. She insists the secret to making mealtime manageable is to have a well-stocked pantry, fridge and freezer. Always have basics like eggs, bacon and chicken breasts on hand. "Eggs and bacon don't magically appear in the kitchen -- they need to be shopped for just as coconut milk or wasabi."
When the ingredients to a simple, yet satisfying meal are at your fingertips, Nigella says you'll then have more time for a "... bath, a drink, a talk with friends or to help the children with their homework. Minimum stress for maximum enjoyment."
