Red State Mom Reacts

How our Red State Mom feels about the presidential election results ... and our country's future.

Republican Elephant

Guest blogger Martha, mom of 1, says: First and foremost, I congratulate President-Elect Obama for his historical win. This is truly a significant moment in our history, and he is to be commended for the race that he ran. What can I say? I am disappointed that my candidate was not successful. But here is the deal. Today we are all Americans. I heard Giuliani say last night, if the President fails, we all fail. Did I vote for him? No. Will I support him as the President of the United States of America? Yes. As a mother, I will strive to teach my children to love their country and support its leaders and the positions they hold. The beauty of the system is that someone does lose. As Americans, our freedom affords us the ability and responsibility to decide who will represent our interests. Someone always has to lose. I echo Senator McCain who stated, "Whatever our differences, we are all Americans. . .and no association has ever meant more to me than that."

Republican moms, how are you feeling right now? Comment below.

I can only hope that most McCain supporters feel this way.

I do agree that now is the time for ALL Americans to come together and support our new President. We are ALL striving for change…and it started with this very election. I am confident that Barack Obama will do his best in serving this country. As he stated in his acceptance speech, “YES WE CAN!”.

I’ve been a full-on Obama supporter all along but I really admired McCain’s speech last night. I hope all his supporters can see the same thing.

obviously i am a little disappointed, but as said above, “we are all americans and need to come together” and i agree. i HOPE that he can do what needs to be done, and prove us skeptical ones wrong.

I, too, am a full supporter of Obama. I was really inpressed with McCain’s speech also. He showed that he truly loves his country and will be there to support it and our newly elected president.

what in the world “anonymous”??? I am a Christian…and I think we made a great choice with Obama. You need to check yourself. Obama is down to earth…fired up to help with our economy and with health care…and other needed issues. Irespect the writer for saying they will support the pres..even if he was not their choice. Why are some people acting like Jesus himself sent McCain here to be president?

Its not that Jesus sent McCain but who sent Obama is the problem. Consult your bible and pay careful attention to Revelation and if you etill feel good about this then there usn’t much left for you is there?

Last night was a huge disappointment for me. My family voted for McCain. We believe he is a Marxist. He wants to have a socialist government which is against what America is built on and is all about. We are about capitalism and freedom to pursue your endeavors. It worries me greatly that he may compromise our freedoms here in America and in dealing with other countries’ leaders.

I’m assuming, Melissa, you meant Obama when you talked about socialist government. That is something that concerns me about him as well. I really can’t do anything about Obama now because he is the new official President-elect and all I can do is move on from this point. I really hope he proves me wrong on my feelings of why I didn’t vote for him and does things right for this country.

“We are about capitalism and freedom to pursue your endeavors.”—Melissa Barlow REALLY? If that’s the case and we’re so afraid of socialism, communism and every other “-ism” why is our new best friend CHINA? Democracy my a$$. I’m so sick of you hypocrites who follow ONE master and that’s MONEY!

I honestly think that if the McCain we saw in that speech last night had been the one we saw for the rest of this campaign he would have had a much better chance at winning. Most of the year he came off as a bully but last night you got to see the good man underneath the campaigning.

These posts are why America is so great. We have the right to express ourselves, no matter how irrational or absurd it may seem, we have the freedom to say things publicly or Anonymous-ly. On another note, I agree with sherry and vicki. I supported Obama, but I have increased respect for McCain after his concession speech. Maybe if he had shown more of that part of his character instead of playing politics as usual, he would have won the election. He showed himself to be an honorable, graceful and dignified man last night and I hope that he plays a role in the Obama administration.

For those who feel the government should allow them to make their own money, allow them to take care of themselves physically and financially, and in general butt out, you’ve obviously never been in a position where you needed government assistance. How lucky for you. Too many people assume that government programs mean a free ticket to ride for freeloaders. There will always be bad apples, but the majority will use these resources as a hand up, and NOT a handout. Remember that our taxes pay for a multitude of good things…schools that everyone may attend, assistance with child care, roads to drive on, educational programs and health services, to name a scant few. In fact, our government finally increased our capability to protect our kids from the influx of unsafe products (ie. lead) by increasing funding to the CPSC. We may be in debt, but we can’t forget that to keep this Nation running, we still need to spend money. But we have to keep an eye on the long-term picture; keep the current budget under the microscope, and invest in those things that may pay off large down the future…perhaps, and likely, for another administration, such as affordable health care, environmentally sound energy policies, and early childhood care and education. I can see a glimmer of the future ahead, and it looks bright. Just remember not to leave others in your dust.

Welcome to the generation of “what can your government do for you?” I’m just glad it’s finally over. I completely agree with this article. My family will support Obama as our new leader-elect because it’s the right and respectful thing to do. For those of us who did not vote for him, I honestly pray that he will prove us wrong over the next four years. And if he doesn’t, that he self-destructs without destroying our country in the process.

It is so amazing to me how America has the nerve to feel as though Barack is going to bring the chickens home to roost. But He is a man of character and with a standard and love in his heart. Barack did NOT go below the belt when McCain and Palin where below the belt and down to the man’s ankles for God’s sake. Barack did not touch the fact that Palin had an unwed pregnant teen, or that her and her husband declared themselves not citizens of the United States government. Barack can’t produce miracles but he will bring change. Now all you McCain supporters think about this…Black Americans did not have a choice when White Americans felt like we were less than 3/5 of a person. Black Americans did not have a choice when White America felt the need to have slaves and lynch and kill Black Americans without a minute of sleep loss. Black America did not have a choice when White Slave owners chose to breed Black men with Black women and they could not be a family. Black America did not have a choice when White slave owners would come in in the middle of the night and RAPE black women. Black America did not have a choice when White Slave owners would come and rip black babies from their mothers breast and sale or even worse make the black mother nurse the white baby. I could go on and on, but We had a choice and yes America is proud. Why can’t Black America have someone who can lead and be just as or more powerful than any one else. People, Black America is not the one who should be feared, but it is people that can’t and won’t accept a good man for a good man. Besides the color of his skin, he is a strong, powerful, intelligent, resourceful, loving, gentle and kind man. My prayers go out to Obama and his family and to all of the people who need to heal and see a man NOT his color.
- WOW!

Am I the only one who didn’t see any of this having ANYTHING to do with the man’s color. I’m so tired of hearing about his color. Everyone is trying so hard to force the idea on everyone that it’s not about his color, that they are MAKING IT ABOUT HIS COLOR. I could care less what color he is, he could be green for all I care. What I DO care about is our country’s future. My kid’s future. Obama has only been on the federal political scene for what, four years?? And what exactly did he accomplish in that time frame that made him worthy of being president other than charisma? I’m sure he is a very nice person. I had no issues with him as a person. I have issues with just plain lack of experience and some of his ideologies. We shall see. The world is watching.

I am disappointed in McCain’s loss but I will show respect to my new president. I just have to say… come on people! We’ve got 4 years of the man. Get over it already and try to find the positive. You will die an early death if you dont.

I think the only ones who keep pointing out Obama’s color is the African American population. Most caucasion people I have spoken with could care less about the color of the President. Get over it! Frankly most caucasions have become color blind while black people keep slapping us in the face with it. WOW, I’m so tired of being held responsible for slavery. I am caucasion and non of my family members owned slaves!!! I personally would never support such a thing and my friends are such because of character not color. If you wanna get upset get upset at this… I voted for McCain because Obama is going to lead us into the end of days. He will have a strong roll literally in hell on earth becoming reality. At that point I don’t think anyone is going to be worried about color! Do you?
- So sick of the racism!
