Users Push to Have Suicide Video Game Banned

There has been a recent movement to ban a free online game where the users try to stimulate a man to keep him from committing suicide.

In "Billy Suicide," users have to help a male character through his day by providing him with caffeine, antidepressants and alcohol. The mental and financial health of the man are maintained by watching TV and internet porn or listening to heavy metal.

If users are unable to keep Billy's "mental health" levels high, the character commits suicide in several different ways - from hanging to shooting himself in the head.

"This game is completely irresponsible and the people who made the game should realize the damage that it can incur in the terms of somebody taking their own life," said Paul Kelly, and internet safety campaigner for Prevention of Young Suicide.

He added, "We would urge them to think twice about what they are doing because we have seen clear cases where vulnerable young people can be influenced by online content."

Sorry, but I’m not buying it. This is just like the uproar over the Grand Theft Auto games. The only people protesting this are the parents too lazy to actually parent their children and monitor their online activities.

Adults should be able to access any kind of games they like, without it being yanked because others won’t keep tabs on their kids.

Isn’t the point of the game to PREVENT the person from killing themselves? Albeit through methods that aren’t all that “wholesome” but still.

I think the only kids who would be damaged by something like this are kids who are already on a major slippery slope and who are probably exhibiting many outward symptoms of a problem.

On the other side of the coin is’s “5 Minutes to Kill Yourself” parts 1 and 2 in their Games section (you can Google it, I don’t need to provide links). In these games you actively try to kill yourself before the time limit runs out and horrible things happen to you (that don’t involve dying).

Again, though, while “promoting” suicide is bad, I don’t believe either of these examples actually are saying “go out and kill yourself” and I don’t believe either are going to convince someone to do so who isn’t already well on that path and maybe beyond most help.

I hope nobody DOES commit suicide, but putting out an action alert on games like this is a waste of time. Spend more time with your friends and family and watch for warning signs and give them real help. Don’t waste your time AWAY from your friends and family picketing these games.

If someone wants to commit suicide it cannot be because of a simple flash game you can play out in 5/10 mins.

It is the major issue now a days. As the economic crysis is low many people are taking this decision, but its a bad to do.The situation will not be in this way it will change.Be confidant and go on.
