Victoria's Secret Bras -- Unsafe?!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

One woman says, "The bras put me out of commision for a month! I don't want to go through that again."

A lawsuit filed against Victoria's Secret claims some of the brand's most popular bras are responsible for causing rashes and permanent scarring, Yikes!

Roberta Ritter says she recently bought the popular "Angels Secret Embrace" bra as well as the "Very Sexy Extreme Push-Up Bra," two of VS most popular bras. After wearing the bras for several days, she says her skin began to itch which then developed into "ugly red painful welts that were hot to the touch," she said.

Ritter's lawyers purchased the same bra types and had them tested at a lab. They say their tests revealed that these bras contained formaldehyde, a chemical many people are allergic to. Ritter's lawyers told ABC News that dozens of other women have contacted them and are experiencing similar problems. They hope to turn this into a class action lawsuit.

victorias secret recalled bras

Momlogic spoke to a Victoria's Secret spokeswoman who had the following to say: Millions of women love Victoria's Secret bras. We have strict quality controls around our products, and we do not use formaldehyde in our bras. Customer safety and satisfaction are always our primary concerns, and we take very seriously any issues our customers may have with our
products.

I had the same problems with these bras. Washing them does not help. It’s nice to know the cause of the red and itchiness. I wonder if V.S. will take them back now even though it has been a while since I bought them.

I have had swelling, blisters, and tiny black dots for rashes the past 2 years. Right after i bought my first victoria secret embrace bra. The blisters hurt and bleed for several days, my doctor couldn’t figure out the problem which lead me to take medicine and cream. IT didn’t help towards the end and i still have the blisters as of today.. I change my bra everyday and wash before use.. so washing the bra is not an issue. But i only wear VS bra’s. Does anyone know what the proper treament is to cure the blisters and welts..after buying new bra’s? and how do we get ahold of ritters atorney?

I don’t buy VS bras. If I had that problem, I would never buy anything from that store again.

WOW! Well I too have just gone thru a couple months of craziness! I thought I had spider bites which turned into the “rash.” I have been on an antibiodic, fungus cream, and some other antiiflammatory cream. I have talked with my OBGYN, been to my primary doctor, a dermatologist and breast specialist. From believing it was just spider bites, to worrying it was some type of breast cancer while waiting for results of a biopsy and ultrasound/sonogram. It is just great to know that people are sharing this information. I just do not want anyone else to have to worry like I have been for the past couple of months. We as woman have enough to worry about when it comes to our health!

Victoria’s Secret is known as the bra retailer, and I don’t think they would do anything to jeopardize that title. These bras are made with time and good quality, so therefore they are more expensive because you are getting what you pay for…”quality.” If these bras are so popular amongst the public and only a few are having problems, than maybe it’s because they are not treating their bras correctly. You are supposed to hand wash these bras…it could be very well possible that if you wash them in the machine over and over again with different detergents that you can and most likely will receive a rash. I feel people are trying to do anything for a buck and suing people over “personal” issues is outrageous. EX: How are you going to sue McDonalds for selling hot coffee? These things are just common sense people!!!! Also, you could be resulting in these rashes or welts from not wearing the correct size bra band. You would be surprised how many women walk around with the wrong size on! That’s just my opinion.

I have developed soreness under the skin along where bra sits, been to Dr.s - had tests - nothing, however am very sore, as if pregnant - but am not, but just in same stop on left side where bra is. Anyone having issues that aren’t surface skin rashes? I think it may be related, so glad I found this am looking for bras not made in China - any out there????!!!

emotionally & physically rashes and scars from VS bras…… Hi, I purchased vs bras and panties last dec. In jan. my skin started to break out. I am still having problems today! this jan it will be one year of pure extreme pain. I have been to soooo many doctors and no one could tell me what to do to help me. I was taking more medicine than my 62 year old mother. I would wake up with tears, hurting, burning and itchy plus emotional I have been so damaged!….my skin was even pilling and flaky. I would have welts, aches, hives, pain, burning, extremely inflamed with blistery bumps that spread almost over my entire body from time to time. my skin would pill and I was so senative to anything. The emotional part was even bad. my skin has always been soooo clear until all of this. into my six months of all of this I did not realize the bras and panties was causing this I purchased more of these same bras and panties again. I am soooo upset that a company would do this and use this in their product. I am still not healed and I still have scars all over my body as the itchy was unbearable. I would emotional just sit and cry. not knowing what my problem was. I have been affected physically and mentally on this and I am really upset about this!!!….I will join anyone and everyone to fight this now!!!!!…..I had people ask me, what is wrong with you!!!!.your skin looks terrible…how would you feel……by the way,I have all my medical records, along with drs note who were trying to cure me. I was even consider going to the mayo clinic to try and get help!!!….let me know Roberta Ritter I am with you 100% with proof to back my remarks from doctor reports and tests…… Posted by YOU

Another frivolous lawsuit. I hear the ambulance chasers now… I understand it’s important to protect consumers from negligent companies that sell unsafe products, but this is getting out of hand. we can’t baby proof everything that might cause harm.

I recently purchased several bras from JC Penney….made in Tawain. For the first time ever I have broken out in a blistery, burning blemish type rash, under my breasts where the band of the bra is and on the lower part of my breasts. Has anyone else had a problem with bras from Penney’s?

I must make a correction. The bras that I purchased from JC Penney were not made in Taiwan. They were made in Thailand. The line of bras is called Barely There. Has anyone else had a problem with these?

I have two friends in another state who, after hearing about this, returned their worn bras to VS for a full refund however when I tried to do the same here in Florida the clerks looked at me like I had two heads and I believe actually laughed when I turned to leave. Has anyone else tried to return theirs?

i had a horrible reaction to VS bras - I have been wearing them for numerous years and this has happened in the last 6- 12 months - washing does not help - i had to go to an allergist and another dermatology specialist to try to figure out the problem - It was a long drawn out process and then it was in the news that VS bras had exessive amounts of formaldehyde in them. I had a rash all over my chest and on my back also. The itching was so intense they bleed and scabbed - I was miserable for severel months and it is still ongoing.

Rashes from your bra is most likey due to wearing the wrong size. Or it could be the style of the bra you are wearing. I was told to be measured every 6 months because us women gain and lose weight like crazy! So you probably are wearing the wrong size bra or style. I went to victoria’s secret and they fixed all my issues with my irritating bras.
