Women Show Pity for Casey Anthony with Cash

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Why would anyone in their right mind give money to an accused child-killer?

Casey Anthony has hit rock bottom. The 22-year-old currently sits in a tiny cell in the Orange County Jail in Florida accused of murder. Many are already convinced Anthony is guilty of fatally chloroforming her three-year-old daughter Caylee, stashing the body in the trunk of her car and then callously partying at a local bar. Things don't look good.

Yet there are a few people, mostly women, who've taken pity on Anthony and are sending her money, to be deposited directly into her jail Inmate Money Account. The account can only be used at the jail commissary -- essentially a canteen for items not supplied by the prison.

So far a total of four women have been moved by Anthony's story enough to contribute. For the most part, the connection between Anthony and the women remain a mystery and is likely to remain so. "We do not seek out the relationship between the contributor and the inmate," Orange County Corrections Public Information Officer Allen Moore told momlogic. Moore isn't surprised, however, that Casey is receiving donations. "Obviously if there had not been the intense media coverage for this case, strangers wouldn't have sent money."

One of these so-called strangers is Michelle St. Claire of Spring Valley, California. She sent the accused mom murderer a donation of $75.00. In an exclusive interview with momlogic, the 39-year-old St. Claire defended her decision to come to the aid of the incarcerated mother.

"I'm a firm believer that you're innocent until you've been proven guilty," says St. Claire, a licensed private investigator. "This is a 22-year-old girl whose life is over. If 75 dollars will buy her some freakin' cocoa lotion, then what's the big deal?"

And, for the most part, standard items are all Casey has been buying. Her first purchases in the prison included: shampoo, hair ties, envelopes and stamps, a washcloth, a sports bra and underwear.

Anthony cannot, as CNN correspondent Nancy Grace erroneously reported, use the money to buy, "lingerie, high-end luxury items, like shrimp cocktails." Unless you count ear plugs or Spam in a Pouch as "splurges," the commissary's offerings consist of only the essentials.

Given the small amount of money St. Claire donated, she is baffled the way the media has been reacting to what she feels is an act of "compassion."

But psychoanalyst Dr. Bethany Marshall is suspect of anyone reaching out to Anthony. "They've identified with her in some way," says Dr. Marshall. "Either they've been abused by a mother, they've abused their own children, maybe they're drug addicts and neglected their own children, they know what it's like to be put in jail."

St. Claire, a childless woman, who has never been incarcerated, thinks Marshall's explanation is laughable.

"I don't necessarily think she's innocent," she says. "I think she was stupid. But I try to be a forgiving person. You never know when you're going to need to be forgiven for something. She's already been tried and convicted. I think educated, healthy people sometimes do reckless things in desperation. She wanted to get a break and something tragic happened."

In the end, St. Claire wonders why people are so judgmental of such a small gesture. "It's not like I sent Casey defense money."

I asked a while back if someone could let me know how to see RECENT commissary requests. I was ignored. Could someone please answer this simple question? Thank you!

This is an extremely difficult situation, for all parties involved, obviously that of Caylee being primary. At least she’s in a better place.I agree 99%, with Michelle St. Claire. However, lets not be to hasty to “jump on the band wagon”.I don’t know if Casey is guilty or innocent.Unlike psychoanalyst Dr. Bethany Marshall, I do not share her opinions. I wasn’t abused, nor abused by my own children, not into drugs, or been in prison, just a guy who cares about children. Still raising my own son and was a Lic. Foster parent for 3 years. Point being, and not unlike myself, sending Casey money isn’t out of pity but compassion. God Bless her entire family and Caylee the most

I don’t truly believe that Casey Anthony is the person who actually killed her daughter. There are wayyy too many shady people who have been let go who were working on the case. Her parents are also acting very very weird and her mother especially. It wouldn’t surprise me if she was on some kind of a wacked out drug or if her mother did it and she’s taking the blame. Something just isn’t right. I’m republican and the reason why I say these things is because half of what we hear on the news is fabricated. For the publics sake, a lot of this garbage cannot even be true, otherwise it would ruin the investigation. The jury would be one sided and she would immediately be thrown in jail for life for this crap. Her dad probably tried to kill himself because he helped her get rid of the body. w/e If I had money, i’d send it to her too. SOOO many people go to jail who kill people and half of the time they aren’t even put on tv. That poor family and that poor girl. Besides, god forgives everyone. Even those who kill.. In america and many other countries and in my head KILLING is wrong. But in gods eyes killing and abuse is the same thing. They are both the same sin to him. I am not justifying and I am not saying that I believe that. But I do respect god and his decision.

I really relate to all the anger here. Its enraging and unimaginable. I agree with innocent until proven guilty with all my heart. But I think that ship sailed when Casey didn’t report the kid missing, partied her head off, and lied to police. I love Christians who will find a way to reach out to someone they imagine is in the most despair. Ms. St. Claire may be one of these folks. But as Christians we have to think about it harder than that. Sometimes we have to let a person sink and let them be alone with themselves. No body is doing Casey or God a favor by sending her money. She has been enabled by her family and doesn’t have any real sense of action and consequence. Maybe what God wants is for her to finally be alone with her consequences.Send Casey your prayers for her soul not your money. They are more valuable by far.

What’s the big deal. If they are idiotic to send her the money, then they are fools. By her spending it, then that shows how much of a sleeze she really is.

Anyone who gives money to this pig is a fool. Cafey has lied, stole and yes, she killed her baby girl. Want doesn’t Casey use all the money she stole from family and friends for her jail house fund. That is right she spent that on her text phone bill and whoring around at the bars while her baby was retten away in the woods. (Casey states she was looking for her girl) I think she is a very ugly person inside and out. Casey only cares for her life and that is it. So if you want to be a dummy and give her money, you are just a fool. Tom G. Essexvilli Michigan

I still believe you’re innocent until proven guilty. But maybe, I’ve made a mistake, not sure. I can’t believe anyone would do this, unless there is a mental deficiency . Who ever said I’m wasting my money,I’m not. Money isn’t the issue for me. Yes, I provide love and support for my own children.

wow, i’ve been follow this story from day one. i’m a mother of 3. ONE PASSED AWAY, SO I’LL START LIKE THIS; I’VE BEEN BROKEN, HOMELESS AND DEPRESSED. BUT I WOULD NEVER EVER KILL MY CHILDREN, I DONT EVEN BELIEVE IN PUT ONE HAND ON THEM. SOMETIMES, I YELL BUT NEVER HIT. FOR I MOTHER TO ACT SO COLD, SO UNFEELING, IS SOMETHING I CANT WRAP MY BRAIN AROUND. I CRY EVERYDAY FOR THE BABY SON, I LOSTED. SHE SHOWS NO FEELING OR HEART WHY, WHY. WHY WOULD U DO THIS WHY? I PRAY THE GOOD LORD HELPS HER FIND HER WAY. WINDY, GA.

St CLaire wasnt looking for 15 minutes of fame. She was reaching out to let Casey know that not everyone hates her. She was making a $75 investment in the possibility that this monster would come clean. Shes a PI, and educated so I doubt shes one of these random freaks that marry criminals. Perhaps shes just a nice person who beleives people can find redemption.

it is a shame when a mother can murder her baby and yet some people can excuse her for it. No way, i feel sad for baby Caylee ,she had no one to protect her and i bet she cried for her grammaw that is why casey put tape around the baby’s mouth .Cindy shouldn’t have told casey that she was taking the baby from her that is why she killed caylee to get back at her mom .

Looking at the crime scene evidence photos released..the filthy, dirt encrusted duct tape, with the heart sticker on it… I cannot reconcile that being around little Caylee’s mouth and hair..because it means she was lying in the rain and sun and was dirty, and decomposed too. It brought it home..looking at what the jury will see. I think either Ms. St. Claire wants some of Casey’s attention..or is obsessed with her. Or is sick like her. Much like women who fall in love with guys in prison… Anyway, it’s not sane, None of this is. Play with the angels, dear Caylee!

I know Michelle. She worked cases in my San Diego district years ago. Shes actually pretty good people. I beleive what she said, because I know her. She does alot of good stuff and is well liked by everyone I know. Try not to bash her so hard. Shes probably a better person then those of you that are slamming her.

All thought I’ve not sent Casey Anthony any money, I believe what St. Clare said. Many years ago, I worked with a Prisoner’s Outreach program. Why didn’t Casey’s mother or attorney buy the underwear and so forth. Well the big word, CONTRABAND is the reason for it. And the commisary charges big money for items ect. then if it was brought in. Much has to be bought at the commissary.I had one fellow ready to leave. He gave me the money to buy him, clothes. Along with the money was a page list of how it was to be packed, who at the prison would receive it, and the list went on. I believe in our American Constitution, YOUR INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILY.

I DON’T CARE WHAT CASEY HAS A PROBLEM WITH!!! She killed Caylee, and she needs to pay for what she did. This party hound never knew how to work for money just STEAL money. Sing the sob song for Casey. Caylee had no right to live the way you put it. I don’t want her on DEATH ROW even though she has earned it. Let her work at HARD LABOR. Yes you dummies, let her earn money. If you want to give money away then FEED A PERSON who is Starving. Casey has everything she needs provided by the state. Would you kill someone and then blame it on some illness, or dad and mom didn’t take you to a fun park and it scared you. Don’t defend this person. Partying and showing off was the most important thing to her. Casey is not that pretty just to let you know. T.G Essexville Mi.

Dr Bethany Marshall, psychoanalyst is so wrong,on her opinion that people were either abused or abused there children and finding away to ease the pain an blame. I came from a loving family and never abused my children. What we did believe in was, good deeds, no strings attached.Reading to the seeing impaired in nursing homes, baking/serving turkeys for Thanksgiving for the homeless, the list went on. This was part of the protocol of growing up in my family and has been past down to my grandchildren.
