Women Show Pity for Casey Anthony with Cash

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Why would anyone in their right mind give money to an accused child-killer?

Casey Anthony has hit rock bottom. The 22-year-old currently sits in a tiny cell in the Orange County Jail in Florida accused of murder. Many are already convinced Anthony is guilty of fatally chloroforming her three-year-old daughter Caylee, stashing the body in the trunk of her car and then callously partying at a local bar. Things don't look good.

Yet there are a few people, mostly women, who've taken pity on Anthony and are sending her money, to be deposited directly into her jail Inmate Money Account. The account can only be used at the jail commissary -- essentially a canteen for items not supplied by the prison.

So far a total of four women have been moved by Anthony's story enough to contribute. For the most part, the connection between Anthony and the women remain a mystery and is likely to remain so. "We do not seek out the relationship between the contributor and the inmate," Orange County Corrections Public Information Officer Allen Moore told momlogic. Moore isn't surprised, however, that Casey is receiving donations. "Obviously if there had not been the intense media coverage for this case, strangers wouldn't have sent money."

One of these so-called strangers is Michelle St. Claire of Spring Valley, California. She sent the accused mom murderer a donation of $75.00. In an exclusive interview with momlogic, the 39-year-old St. Claire defended her decision to come to the aid of the incarcerated mother.

"I'm a firm believer that you're innocent until you've been proven guilty," says St. Claire, a licensed private investigator. "This is a 22-year-old girl whose life is over. If 75 dollars will buy her some freakin' cocoa lotion, then what's the big deal?"

And, for the most part, standard items are all Casey has been buying. Her first purchases in the prison included: shampoo, hair ties, envelopes and stamps, a washcloth, a sports bra and underwear.

Anthony cannot, as CNN correspondent Nancy Grace erroneously reported, use the money to buy, "lingerie, high-end luxury items, like shrimp cocktails." Unless you count ear plugs or Spam in a Pouch as "splurges," the commissary's offerings consist of only the essentials.

Given the small amount of money St. Claire donated, she is baffled the way the media has been reacting to what she feels is an act of "compassion."

But psychoanalyst Dr. Bethany Marshall is suspect of anyone reaching out to Anthony. "They've identified with her in some way," says Dr. Marshall. "Either they've been abused by a mother, they've abused their own children, maybe they're drug addicts and neglected their own children, they know what it's like to be put in jail."

St. Claire, a childless woman, who has never been incarcerated, thinks Marshall's explanation is laughable.

"I don't necessarily think she's innocent," she says. "I think she was stupid. But I try to be a forgiving person. You never know when you're going to need to be forgiven for something. She's already been tried and convicted. I think educated, healthy people sometimes do reckless things in desperation. She wanted to get a break and something tragic happened."

In the end, St. Claire wonders why people are so judgmental of such a small gesture. "It's not like I sent Casey defense money."

How pathetic these women are, no matter what their “logic” is for sending money to Casey Anthony’s jail account. I wonder if those same women have donated money to EquuSearch to help in the attempt to locate Caylee??? Lotion…..PLEASE!! Why should she deserve anything when she has refused to help for the search of her own daughter!! These women disgust me!

I agree 100% with Michelle St. Claire! Keep in mind that Casey has not been proven guilty…she has been judged by the likes of Nancy Grace based on information that has NOT been proven yet. Do not base your opinion on gossip!!! That is why we have a judicial system. Educate yourselves on past cases where innocent people went to jail because of ‘bad information’ - it has happened MANY times and ruined peoples lives. Until this case is tried in court, we don’t know the facts so let’s not be so quick to crucify her!

We all need to keep in mind the relevance of the Legal System in regard to Casey Anthony’s guilt or innocence. There was enough testimonial evidence and enough demonstrative evidence to put Casey Anthony behind bars until her trial. It is true that she is innocent until proven guilty, but it will now be up to her Defense Attorney to try to disprove the evidence against her. Keep in mind, there is enough evidence to convict her without a body, and if this were not the case, nothing would have progressed to the stage that it is at, legally. Does Casey deserve to have an outpouring of support, emotionally and financially, from the public? If Casey Anthony were not the child’s mother, I honestly don’t think that anyone would have one ounce of pity towards her and I doubt anyone would send her a cent. If Casey Anthony were some pedofile neighbor of Caylee’s or of any other missing child, and was witholding information or giving false and misleading statements to investigators, the vast majority of people would assume guilt because the behaviour is so suspect. As the evidence mounted, they would also be outraged and rioting in front of the person home if no arrest was made. Because this was a young Mom, we don’t want to believe that she was capable of harming a little child, HER little child. The facts in the case do speak for themselves, though, and that is why Casey is now in jail. If we were to remove Casey out of the equation—if all of this was done by a stranger, we would have less doubt about guilt, based on the facts of the case, and more belief in motive. No one wants to believe a young mom harmed her child, but truthfully, if all the testimonial and demonstrative evidence that was presented in Casey’s case, involved a total stranger, no one would question whether justice was being served. They would believe it more, rather than face the incomprehensible fact that this mother likely is guilty of harming her own child.

Liz, whether she is guilty or not is the the problem here. the problem is that she is in JAIL and until she is proven innocent or guilty, she should be treated as a prisoner and not have all the luxury’s that a non-jailed person would have. I would venture to guess that if she is found innocent, you would never seek her out to “babysit” for you!

Sandra, nice blog. Well written. Mildred, I’m 100% behind you too! Tina, casey anthony made HERSELF look guilty to the world by all of her actions thus far. Need I remind you of Day 31, when she had YET to report her daughter missing?? It goes ALL downhill from there. The only “innocent” thing about this case is Caylee!!!! Not an ounce of sympathy here for Casey or Cindy for that matter. Two peas in a pod. If the people are lucky, both of them will end of in the SAME POD! (prison pod that is!)

Tina, I would also like to remind you there are just as many murderers, rapists, child molesters and etc. that go unconvicted or set free (for “good behavior”) only to commit their crimes again……it’s called LIFE. Justice will prevail because Casey is NOT the only one who knows what she has done……Lest not forget God. In order to be forgiven, one has to repent. You can’t repent if you feel no remorse. If you think for one minute that Casey is one bit remorseful about anything but having to sit in jail…….by all means, join the elite few and send her a few dollars!

Sure Casey deserves some freakin cocoa lotion. I guess people have different priorities in life. Caylee will never even know what freakin cocoa lotion is. Yes you are innocent until proven guilty but the circumstances, the lies Casey has told are beyond a reasonable doubt. The first lie told should tell the story…..she left her house the last day Casey father saw Caylee alive and told her dad she was going to work and take Caylee to the babysitter. WHAT JOB!!!! Go back to the good old basics of sweet jail life. Bread & Water only for someone who has done such a terrible thing..

Tammy, EXACTLY!!!! my point too! Atleast when she gets her freakin cocoa lotion, it won’t have chloroform in it!!!! Your bread and butter comment is right on….that’s what’s wrong with todays world…..prison is like a vacation. NO punishment like it used to be.

Anonymous… RIGHT ON! To all those ladies wanting to send money to casey for personal items….how about sending a little cash towards the homeless people….they have pobably NEVER had the privilage of having the luxuries in life that your paying for a monster to have. What is wrong with you people….it’s not called “generosity” in this case, it’s called “ignorance” and you are like alot of others attached to this case, you’ll do anything to be in on the “action”.

I think that the money in Casey’s Jail account should be “frozen” because, after all, she is charged with fraud. That way, when when Casey is convicted, which she undoubtedly will be since video surveillance is hard to dispute, at least Amy Huizenga can get some of her money back. Restitution, it’s a good thing. So, to all you St Claire’s…keep the donations coming because Casey owes Amy a lot of money! Oh, and thank you for the compliment Caylee has stolen america’s heart!

What surprises me the most, I think, is the way so many people are deciding how others should spend their money. Seriously, so many here are deciding Casey is guilty, without a fair trial, deciding that the women in question should not spend their money as they choose, pretty much decided Caylee is dead and have even suggested where any money offered should go. Wow. You “control freaks” must be a blast to live with…lol

Thanks! My husband, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors love me so your opinion doesn’t matter. And I do believe in restitution. It is a just and fair principle. If Casey is convicted to the fraud charges, she should get a job in prison and work off the money she owes. Call me crazy if you want, but that sounds more like a fair world, than one that is full of control freaks, in your view. On that note, it must takes one to know one.
