Are elementary schools safe anymore?

7 yr old robs 6 yr old boy

A 7-year-old elementary school student in Florida armed himself with a butter knife to rob his 6-year-old classmate, police say.

The alleged incident took place inside a bathroom at the Pine Lakes Elementary School in Miami. According to police, the first-grade student stole cash from his alleged victim.

The victim's nose started bleeding during the encounter, which has been classified as an armed robbery, schools police operations supervisor Craig Kowalski said.

The victim's mother reported the incident to school officials Monday, when classes resumed after the holiday break. The boy did not have any visible injuries at that time, school officials said.

The 7-year-old likely brought the weapon from home, Bromery said. He is serving a 10-day suspension and will likely be expelled to an alternate school for children with discipline problems.

"I don't know that I would call this bullying ... I would call it juvenile delinquency," says bullying expert Ross Ellis of Love Our Children USA. "I would take a look at what the child is watching and what sort of video games this child is playing. I want to go and shake the parents and say, 'What are you teaching your child?' He is obviously learning this from somewhere."

She says this behavior needs to be nipped in the bud NOW. "His parents need to get him help immediately if they ever want him to someday be a healthy, responsible adult," Ellis says.

What do you think of this schoolhouse stick-up?

I’ve taught for 18 years in Miami. I was not even a bit surprised by this news. Oh the stories I could tell. Mama’s keep a close eye, there are some real “interesting” children out there and they do start young.

“He is obviously learning this from somewhere.” He did not have to learn that from anybody. You don’t have to teach children to lie, to steal, and to be brutal to other children. They learn that on their own. Parents have to teach them NOT to do those things and to do kind things (like sharing, etc). This is one more proof that we as human beings are born sinful and wicked, and the only reason we are not as bad as we can possibly be is the common grace of God. Unless God regenerates a person’s heart (ie: Ezekiel 36, John 3, etc), we are doomed.

Amen Sarah. “The LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth;” Genesis 8:21 Men are evil, radically depraved, God-hating, idolatrous, rebellious beings who deserve nothing more than the wrath, the Holy Indignation of God Almighty, but despite that we all deserve His wrath, God so loved the world that He gave His only son, so that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. He poured out all His wrath against us for all our sins on Jesus as He lay dying on that cross. And then He raised Him up again and now Christ is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Living and getting ready to return. If you hear His voice today, do not harden your hearts. Today is the day of salvation.

I agree with Sarah and Jacob. You have to face a Holy God on Judgment Day who sees lust as adultery (Matt 5:28) and hatred as murder (1 John 3:15). I know I will be guilty, would you? But the good news is that Jesus (God) took your punishment on the cross, and rose again defeating death, to save you from Hell. He commands you to now repent (turn from your sins- Luke 13:5) and trust in Him today!
