Municipal officials in Anchorage have pulled the plug on their famous giant snowman, known as Snowzilla.

Snowzilla was first built in 2005 and rose 16 feet. The giant snow structure gained popularity with international photographers and camera crews.

Every succeeding year the snowman was built higher, until locals complained about the large number of cars full of people that would come to see Snowzilla.

City officials now deemed Snowzilla a public nuisance and safety hazard.

Builders were ordered to stop a few weeks ago leaving Snowzilla as a pile of snowy rubble.
