No Birthday Cake for Tot Named Adolf Hitler

A supermarket refused to personalize a cake with name of the leader of the Third Reich. Go figure.

A couple in New Jersey is upset because their local ShopRite refused to personalize a birthday cake with the name of their 3-year-old son ... who just happens to be named Adolf Hitler. Heath and Deborah Campbell, both self-proclaimed "Holocaust deniers," protested the decision, saying: "ShopRite can't even make a cake for a 3-year-old. That's sad."

It's not the first time the Campbells have had their cake request denied before -- the ShopRite also refused to make a cake bearing the name of Adolf's sister, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, who turns 2 in February.

The cake debacle could be a window into how the children, because of their controversial names, will be treated in the future by classmates or even (someday) employers. But the Campbells aren't worried in the least: "I just figured that they're just names," mom Deborah Campbell said. "They're just kids. They're not going to hurt anybody." Um, good luck with that.

The ShopRite store was so adamant that the name Hitler should not grace a cake that they even refused to provide a blank cake for the parents to write the name themselves, saying only that "we believe the request ... to inscribe a birthday wish to Adolph Hitler is inappropriate." Ya think?

Clearly they are not “just names” as the mother says. She chose those names to make a statement. I feel sorry for her children who have to live with that statement.

Disgusting. Yay for ShopRite. No one has a “right” to shop there. Given the nature of the names, I think they were completely in their right.

If I’m not mistaken stores still have the right to refuse service. Go Shop Rite!!! These parents are at best naive about the ways these kids will be affected by having to go through life with those names. They say that ‘they’re just toddlers they’re not gonna hurt anybody’. Oh really? Feeling socially isolated is one of the main causes for kids to lash-out violently in schools. Sometimes to the point of multiple murders. Does columbine ring a bell for anyone? The names that these innocent, for now, children have will get them teased, tormented and socially isolated.

Well, I’m just baffled. Holocaust denial? Wow. If those were “just names” then they would be Cindy and Joe. Clearly there was intent with those names. The good news is that (and I can tell you this from personal experience) not all children raised by ignorant hate filled people grow up to be ignorant hate filled people. Sometimes we are smart enough and have heart enough to see how cowardly and disgusting such hate filled people and their attitudes are and we grow into much better people than our parents. Let us hope it is the same with these kids.

Let’s hope that Kara is right and these kids learn early how ignorant and hate filled their parents’ views are and they grow up to re-educate their parents on what really happened. Maybe when they grow up they’ll get their names legally changed. Naming those children the way they did was intentional and with purpose and it borders on emotional abuse.

Excuse me but “WHAT???” - Holocaust deniers??? What color is the sky in your world? Because I bet that you deny that it is blue. Those poor children. I do hope that they turn out as Kara suggested…smart enough to know right from wrong. Good luck to them with those names!

I guess I give the parents the right to name their child whatever they want. Sure they may be making a statement but why can’t they? What if you named your child Obama right now? Wouldn’t you be making a statement with your child? Obviously they are very different statements but still…Why not let the kid have his cake?

Cameron, there is a HUGE difference between naming your child “Obama” and naming it Adolph Hitler. Yes, they both make statements, but what kind of message are they making? Not everyone agrees with Obama, I’ll be the first to admit, but he never forced the murder of eleven million people. Hitler, on the other hand, intentionally spread a message of hate and bigotry, a legacy that Ms. Campell seems intent on continuing. So why not let the kid have his cake? Because that would be supporting this sort of blanant bigotry. Go ShopRite!

Adolph is a bad name, i just hope Mr & Mrs. Campell would change their children’s name, i mean their kids are not mean, but the name Adolph Hitler(and anything related to him) is just controversial, this also hurts the feelings of the jews. Its okay to name your kid Obama anyway, he was only accused of being islam infact many folks named their children Obama and got a birthday cake. Its not like i hate Mrs. Campell’s children, i guess the name is not good for them, in my opinion, they should not name their kids after politicians/dictators/big figures whatever… But i think the names are okay as long as they aren’t your typical class bullies/neighborhood bullies/evil dictators to name a few

If you do a little research, the founders of shoprite (or their parent company, wakefern) are all Jewish, and it’s not that far of a jump to say that if not some of them are holocaust survivors, then they had relatives that were…

Angelyka, “Adolf” is just a name. If they named their son Adolf, his name would be Adolf Campbell, no big deal. But they named him literally “Adolf Hitler” (and their daughter Jocelyn Aryann Nation for chrissakes). Those parents are nazis and they don’t hide it, in fact they want to advertise nacism by hiding under the flag of “freedom of choice” or whatever. That by itself is pretty bad, but using their children for some twisted political purpose is utterly sick.

Shop Rite shouldn’t deny service to the customer. They should inscribe the children’s first names only. I’m sure there are thousands of people named “Adolph” and “JoyceLynn” or some variation.

The parents say it’s not fair to be denied a cake for their kids. The rest of the world says it’s not fair to the kids to give them those names (names that will lead to ostrification—except by fellow racists). Talk about child endangerment!
