No Birthday Cake for Tot Named Adolf Hitler

sign up for the momlogic newsletter Tweet This

A supermarket refused to personalize a cake with name of the leader of the Third Reich. Go figure.

A couple in New Jersey is upset because their local ShopRite refused to personalize a birthday cake with the name of their 3-year-old son ... who just happens to be named Adolf Hitler. Heath and Deborah Campbell, both self-proclaimed "Holocaust deniers," protested the decision, saying: "ShopRite can't even make a cake for a 3-year-old. That's sad."

It's not the first time the Campbells have had their cake request denied before -- the ShopRite also refused to make a cake bearing the name of Adolf's sister, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, who turns 2 in February.

The cake debacle could be a window into how the children, because of their controversial names, will be treated in the future by classmates or even (someday) employers. But the Campbells aren't worried in the least: "I just figured that they're just names," mom Deborah Campbell said. "They're just kids. They're not going to hurt anybody." Um, good luck with that.

The ShopRite store was so adamant that the name Hitler should not grace a cake that they even refused to provide a blank cake for the parents to write the name themselves, saying only that "we believe the request ... to inscribe a birthday wish to Adolph Hitler is inappropriate." Ya think?

Do you agree with ShopRite's refusal to write Adolf Hitler on a cake? What about the store's refusal to even sell them a blank cake to write the name themselves? Comment in the momlogic community.

“Anonymous”, perhaps YOU should read a littler closer:

Among several HUNDRED articles that clearly state that ShopRite offered to leave the name blank.

Just what about 12 seconds of research turned up. Make sure you get all sides of the story before you comment!!

Manseba, perhaps you should rethink what you just said.

“Adolf Hitler” is not simply a name given to a child because it sounds pretty. It was given with intent, to make a statement about the parents’ beliefs. Combined with the facts that the parents are self-proclaimed Holocaust deniers, and that they named their other child Aryan Nation, it’s obvious that “just a name” isn’t a valid description here.

I think it is terrible to name a child Adolph Hitler however it is a right guarunteed by the constitution. Shop mart does have the right to deny service for ANY reason read carefully I said ANY meaning a nonspecific reason. When you deny a service based on a lagalley givin name, or a reason you afford everyone else that is discrimination. Do they deny service to others based on the name they were givin? If you expect your own rights to be upheld you need to allow other the same. People are offended all of the time that does not make the point of view correct no matter how many agree with you, we are a nation of laws, discrimination is wrong in under any lite.

It doesn’t matter what their names are, ShopRite has no right to discriminate. What happened to the land of the free? They can choose to believe anything they wish. I’m betting the one’s who denied them service are christians.

Shop Rite did not discriminate. They have the right to refuse service. The parents have the right to name their kids what they want. Shop Rite may have ramifications in refusing service, but they still have that right, and risking ramifications is their choice. So is the parents’ choice of the names. Risk (okay, realistically, guarantee) or ramifications of their choice, and they did it too.

Everyone exercising their freedom, as is our exercise of our rights to speak our minds on the subject.

No one broke any laws, and all freedoms have been exercised appropriately.

That said, these parents are at best idealists, more likely dunderheads at a minimum, and most likely, neo-Nazis (also implying dunderheads) in disguise (cowardly, as are most who hold and act on such philosophies). Did they do anything illegal? Nope. Stupid, selfish and having long lasting effects on these innocent kids? Almost assuredly.

We can only hope for and try to help these kids see positive human values, not the least of which is to not take selfish motives and foist them upon the innocent and defenseless (like Nazis did, and like these “parents” are doing to the kids).

First off, they deny being racist but they use names like Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation for their kids. Duh. I bet their nazi/aryan brothers and sisters are proud of them for denying their views. Let’s make a statement but then pussy foot around about it when it comes to the press. Dumb. Any business reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. These people could have requested Adolf but they requested his first and last name hoping for this all to happen so they could get their white trash selves in the media. Another article said they had also requested a swastika. That’s not racist? They are more than deniers, they are in denial and honestly, from what I know about the nazi’s and Hitler, he’s probably rolling over in his grave knowing that inbred rejects people are using his name.

Too bad for the kids. On another sad note. I was recently at a fast food restaurant and the teenage server at the cash had a name tag, “Charlie Manson”.

I say sue the shop, if the jews can shoot children in the head, Hitler was right in killing the jews in the first place, Lets bring Adolf Hiter back we need him.

Hooray for child social services for taking the kids from the crackhead parents!

Thomas January 16, 2009, 10:24 AM

Why don’t the parent have their name legal change from from Heath and Deborah to Adolf Hitler and Aryann Nation instead of putting those kids at risk. Thank God for the Children Protection Service to step in.

You want to name someone after a monster who is responsible for the single worst war, up until now, (we don’t know what the future holds,) that humanity ever experienced, with a record of tens of millions of people tortured, starved, mass-murdered, experimented on, like they were lab rats, in his concentration camps? So all of the world was not at war back then, huh? So you simpletons could retain your freedom to indulge in this outrage now. Just think what your prized monstrosity of the worst excuse for a human being would have done to you, had you ever had the courage to disagree with him! Instead here you are with all the freedom the blood of a previous generation has bought for you, indulging in this sickening, frivolous nonsense, and tainting both the character, and the future of those precious, innocent children God has given you.

Thats so terrible! The humiliation of having a really bad name sucks. I know. I hope they are at least schooled in public schools, because they might have a chance of turning out ok.

qq, you have no place to be talking about others being dumb.
