Armchair Detectives' Casey Anthony Theories

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Followers of the high profile Casey Anthony case have their own ideas about what happened to three-year-old Caylee.

armchair_detectives_casey_anthony_pm.jpg

Caylee and Casey Anthony were high up on the recently released list of Yahoo! 2008 most searched terms, coming in at number two. A search for Casey Anthony on Google garners a staggering seven million results -- it's no wonder interest in the high profile case continues to grow. Since a recent motion for a gag order was denied, those who can't turn away from the mystery of the whereabouts of Caylee Anthony continue to dig into the tragic story as if they were actually assigned to the case. Up to now, the most widely held hypothesis of what happened to Caylee is her mother, wanting to live the "party" life, attempted to sedate her child with a lethal dose of chloroform and hid the body in her the trunk of her car. She eventually disposed of the body in a yet to be revealed location.

Despite the mounds of circumstantial and forensic evidence that seem to point to this conclusion, there are still those with their own idea of what happened to Caylee. Check out some of their theories:

Casey is hiding Caylee from Cindy Anthony
Casey's mom Cindy allegedly told family members that she was considering filing for full custody of Caylee because Casey was an "unfit mother." Some believe this is the reason Casey made Caylee "disappear." Court documents released earlier this year said Casey wanted to give the Caylee up for adoption before she was born but Cindy Anthony wouldn't let her. And according to Casey's brother Lee, there was already bad blood between Casey and her mother because, in the delivery room, grandmother Cindy was handed newborn Caylee BEFORE Casey.

Caylee was left in a hot car
Both Cindy and Casey are responsible for Caylee's death. The mom and daughter went out shopping one day for groceries and left Casey accidentally inside the car. When they got back to the car, Caylee was dead. Later they both put the toddler in the trunk of the car and together disposed of the body.

Caylee was kidnapped by drug dealers
Since no one has come forward to identify the Caylee "sighting" at a Florida mall, many think the little girl was indeed kidnapped. Some who have viewed the images believe Caylee is being held captive or was killed by drug dealers in retaliation for a situation involving Casey's drug habit.

Casey's brother Lee is  Caylee's dad
No one seems to know who Caylee's father is -- although at one point Casey falsely told investigators he was killed in a car accident. Some people believe Casey's brother Lee is the actual father of Caylee. A police interview of Casey's former fiancée Jesse Grund revealed that Casey had once told him Lee made inappropriate sexual advances toward her. This alleged incest accusation could have resulted in a child. Many feel Casey's relationship with her brother is "creepy," referencing the way she refers to him as "sweetheart" as evidence of its inappropriate nature. Although this theory doesn't explain how Caylee met her fate -- some feel it explains the dysfunction of the Anthony family.

Casey planned to kill her entire family
According to reports, Casey told a friend  her parents were getting a divorce and giving her the house. Casey had claimed she was planning on moving in the Anthony house the weekend Caylee disappeared. Was Casey was planning on chloroforming George, Cindy and Caylee
as they slept and bury their bodies in the back yard? A few people think this might've been the case. The theory is the plan went sour when Cindy and Casey got into a physical fight over a financial matter and Casey killed Caylee to get even.

What do you think is the truth?

Steve, Leonard Padilla says Casey had friends who lived in Sawgrass Apartments and it was right across the street from the home of Tony Lazarro, where Casey was staying. Padilla said Casey had to have been in the office and saw that apartment application to get Zenaida Gonzalez name and the color of her car. The police have never said that Casey asked about renting the apartment. But she may have gone in the office when the agent was showing the apartment to Zenaida and saw her name on the form and memorized it. Casey remembered the full name of the man she claimed introduced her to the nanny Zenaida Gonzalez saying she took care of his son, Zachary. I can only remember his first name, Jeffrey. He told investigators he knew Casey in high school but never worked with her at Universal Studios. He said he didn’t have a son and never heard of a nanny named Zenaida Gonzalez.

Casey told investigators Jeffrey’s full name is Jeffrey Michael Hopkins. He said he hadn’t seen her since high school. She has a good memory for full names including middle names. I have trouble remembering last names of anybody.

So, I know that Sawgrass has survellience cameras which record to hard drive. Has anyone looked at the recordings to see when Casey went into the leasing office?

There are a lot of Xanax theories out there. Does anyone know if Xanax is one of those drugs that will show up in the hair? Does anyone know if they tested Caylee’s hair for drugs?

Total strangers care more about what happened to that sweet little girl than her own family does… very sad! All of you who keep the story alive keep the pressure on Casey, her defense team, the Anthonys, the police and prosecutors.

First, Cindy was not involved in Caylee’s death in anyway, she may be a nut case and something is really wring with her brain, but she loved that little girl, and listen to the 911 calls, there’s real panic in her voice, that wasn’t acting. She wouldn’t have called 911 if she thought her daughter killed her granddaughter, she’d cover it up, like she’s doing now. She believed Casey was just hiding Caylee from her and she was pissed about it and decided to get the cops in on the action to force Casey to tell her where Caylee was. I don’t think the shovel or neck breaking searches were related to the chlorofor, possibly and that does kind of indicate premeditated murder. The Anthonys claim they had a bamboo problem in their yard, maybe someone searched to find the best way to remove using a shovel? But chloroform… now I do believe Casey had been drugging Caylee, possibly even locking her in the trunk of the car so no one would see the sleeping child alone inside the car(xanax is an interesting theory, maybe spot on.) She did this so she could go out and party or even sleep over a boyfriends house, later she found Caylee dead in the trunk. Not knowing what to do, Casey probably ignored her dead child, and pretended it didn’t happen, like she ignored and pretended her pregnancy didnt exist. when the smell started coming from the trunk, she was forced to act, and she brought the child to the house to make it look accident but got scared, forensics would show the child was already dead when it was placed in the pool, so she instead made up the sitter lie, she’s a pro at lying, and took the child and burned her remains. I think her remains are NOT in Orlando, but that Casey drove far away to do this. She ran out of gas, it was so far away. Though I do remember cell records showing she never left the Orlando area, did someone else burn or bury Caylee for her? an accomplice? Police should apply pressure on some of her old lovers, especially that former Orlando cop that was so hot for Casey, but she blew off… maybe she used sex to get him to help and take the child to Tampa or Jacksonville or another town? If the

I don’t believe that the little girl shown at the Florida Mall is Caylee. Although the little girl appears to be the right size and general appearance, check out her nose. The pictures I’ve seen of Caylee show that she has the same nose as Casey, Lee, and George — who all have a definite “slope” to their noses — you can tell they are all related! However, the little girl in the picture has a very straight nose with no slope at all. I don’t believe its Caylee. Although I would LOVE to see Caylee returned to her family, I feel the forensics indicate that the Sheriff’s Office is right — Caylee is, unfortunately, dead, and won’t be coming back alive. Its a sad, sad situation.

I truly believe anyone who has followed this case cannot come up with some of these theories. The FACTS do not support most of them There is no way ANYTHING human is buried in that backyard IMO Cindy is a pathetic and controlling person. That is no excuse for the actions of Casey or the lies, texts, behavior and complete lack of regard in the disappearance of her little toddler, Caylee. I am the mother of two grown daughters and a proud grandmother. I lived in a beautiful area of San Diego County when my youngest daughter was 2 years old. While I was shopping at the market and in the checkline. She was out of the cart standing next to me while I was unloading my cart. A mere 30 seconds went by when I turned and she was not there. I ran everywhere calling her and found the store manager who started alerting everyone in the store. As I was back to the front of the store, I saw a woman with my child in her arms preparing to exit the store. I ran and confronted her taking my child from her immediately. She said she was “looking for her mother” How did she know she was with her mother? She then quickly exited the store. No one could ever locate this person though I called the police. I was so thankful that I had my child and that she was safe and sound. The hair literally stood upon the back of my neck when I confronted that person! I should have chased her down but I only cared that my baby was in my arms. I believe these are the reactions of a mother who cannot locate her child for even a minute! I could not stop shaking for at least an hour the terror! I believe that Casey Anthony either accidentally overdosed her child-same as murder-or deliberately did her in out of “spite” along with the fact that her precocious little girl was going to “start talking” about her experiences with “mommy” which did not include a nanny or the rest of the lies Casey was promoting. I cannot believe that the grandparents did not even have a phone number for the nannny! What a sad and horrid ending for all of us who follow this case. You Are OUR Sunshine dear Caylee. May you flourish

janis, what are the facts that you know absolutly to be true and don’t support anyone elses theories but yours? besides casey lies, and no one who is looking for Caylee can find her. You said there is no way a dead body can be buried in the back yard, but according to the media, and almost everyone here, its believed to be fact that 2 cadaver dogs hit on the same spot where a decomposing body was buried. (so is it a undeniable fact? or is it only a fact that the media reported it that way?) Because some of the so-called evidence that people through in my face when my theory dosn’t mimic thiers is this kind of stuff like the cadaver dogs. If the cadaver dogs hit was a fact as most here think it is,then why wouldn’t law enforcement take action and dig? I mean the same dogs also supposedly hit on the truck of the car too. Dosn’t anyone else wonder if this is suppose to be facts of the case why the backyard hit is just ignored? And if Caylee was in the trunk of that car for any lenth of time, how is it that only one single hair was left, just one. And like I said before, I don’t know the truth of what happened anymore than anyone else here, but I don’t just take what the media tells me as fact anymore. Theres to many whys on the this case. People have been railroaded before , and that is a fact. And Janis, I am sorry you had to go through that with your daughter, I can only imagine what it felt like. But we can’t compare everyone else to the way we feel , or we act , or what we would do. Maybe Casey didn’t considere her daughter missing, and if by some chance she did give her to a family that was stable and loving, then she had a reason to go out and look happy. Now befor anyone here wants to jump on me because I question things concerning what is fact and what is only presented as a fact, I want to say, the likeliness of Casey doing harm to her daughter is overwhelming considering the entire picture, and its more than likely what did happened. But there is always a chance, even a slim one, that

Hi there Colleen. I did not say that a body had not been in the backyard at one point in time - I think that is fairly obvious. What should also be obvious is that law enforcement made SURE that no remains were still there. Cadaver dogs and other searches were extensive! I think the forensic timeline tells the whole sordid tale not the media. There are probably many things none of us are aware of as yet. I certainly respect your opinion as well as anyone else who has the concern for this lovely little girl. However, after reading all the documents and viewing the videos/audios of all concerned in this disturbing case- that are not the media’s slant but law enforcement details. Collen - I can’t imagine you have children and if you did that you would respond in any way, shape or form the way Casey Anthony did. Love to you

Janis, you make a good point. These people who think Caylee is still alive, may be caring people who love children. But let me ask you caring people, if Casey did kill Caylee so she could hurt her mother and get away from her parents and live a partying, sex filled lifestyle, do you think she should get away with it just because she was good at hiding Caylee’s body? We who believe Caylee is dead are child lovers too and we want justice for Caylee. If just one juror has reasonable doubt that Caylee is dead, Casey could get away with murder. So you child lovers who do not want Caylee to be dead, ask yourself is coming up with a fantasy that Caylee is alive worth allowing a baby killer to walk free? If Caylee were your granddaughter, would you want her murderer to go free or pay for her crime? I am a grandmother and I am looking at the evidence and facts and not pretending she is alive because I don’t want a murderer to walk free. I want justice for Caylee Marie Anthony.

Janis, I do have children, 2 to be exact and they are grown and I now have 3 granchildren who I love as much as I love my grown kids. I have just learned over the years that people do not act the same in the same situations and we, as a majority, tend to base alot of our judgement of others based on the way we would behave in the same situation and when they don’t behave the way we think they should, we can’t understand why and therefore we judge them. We all do it, we all judge others on our own emotions. Its a constant battle for me to remember that its not for me to sit and judge anyone else. Are the audios and videos you watched the interviews of the family and friends? because I watched and listened to those also, but still don’t see any hard evidence other than Casey telling lies. And Im not being sarcastic, but I would really like to know if Im missing something that definantly proves that this is what acually happened. Can you tell me where to look? If I missed concrete evidence and Im still hopeing theres a chance, then I want to know so I know its over.

you know Sally and Zeva, why can’t anyone else have a theory thats differant then yours without the so-called know -it- alls swooping in to tell them since its not the same as yours, then its wrong. I have never said anybody here is wrong for believing what they believe, all i have done is question whats truth and fact according to the case. And no , Sally I don’t think a murderer should walk free, but the bottom line for arguement sake is unless you were right there, you do not have the power of insight to dictate to me or anyone else what happened, all you can do is give your opinion and theory , the same as I have, and everyone else here. And as far as comments like asking if Im Cindy Anthony, just shows immaturity on your part zeva in not being able to debate and discuss anything else other than what you think. I quess if everyone was the same and everyone had the same opionion then we could all just sit here and congradulate each other on how smart we are and how we solved this case of what acually happened, and why. They wouldn’t even have to have a trial to prove anything if they just asked the moms here. I am not defending Casey Anthony if she killed her daughter, and Im not going to defend myself anymore on here because my opinion dosn’t match yours.

Police wouldn’t have to dig up the yard, they could use sonar to locate a body, I’ve seen this used before. They should do it anyway to rule it out. Even though there is no pavement and it’s unlikely the child is buried there. Second, I can’t believe law enforcement didn’t take Casey’s pants that she was wearing the day of the alleged murder. They said it was because Cindy had washed them. I know luminol (sp?)can show blood after repeated washings, so why not take them and test them? And as for the one hair in the trunk, obviously Casey cleaned out the trunk! that single hair was a lucky find. Sally, for clarity, I’ve read all the documents form the police, Sawgrass is not across the street from Tony Lazzaro’s apt but her other boyfriend Ricardo Morales. what was casey doing, if she wasn’t working? anyone think maybe she was a call girl?

As for the incest story, either by her father or her brother it sure would explain a lot of Casey’s behavior, the lies for one, if there was abuse she would have grown up lying and covering up, she would think that was normal and be very good at it, it also explains her promiscuity and using sex to get what she wants, it explains her sociopathic behavior. And explains why Cindy is going to such lengths to protect her. Denial would have been something Cindy’s been used to dealing with, denying her husband’s been molesting her daughter or that her children are having sex.

First off, there is no post mortem band on the one hair. Read the FBI report carefully. The FBI forensics lab has specific terminology to use in cases and nowhere do they conclude this is a post mortem band. It does say “shows evidence of apparent decomposition.” If it had indeed been identified as a post mortem band they would identify it as such. It goes on to state that other contributing factors such as environment cannot be ruled out. So to say that this proves there was a decomposing body in the trunk of the car based on the hair evidence is plainly wrong and don’t even get me started on the air sample test which are totally inconclusive.

Colleen, I have a very specific question for you, if Caylee is alive in another country explain why there is a hair in Casey Anthony’s trunk with a post mortem band on it with the mitrochrondial dna of either Caylee or Casey?(Remember only one of them is suspected of being dead) And having said that, how do you explain that George, Cindy, the tow yard manager, several detectives, the Body Farm, and two cadaver dogs detected a decomposing body? The reason I am asking is because Baez is going to have to answer these questions to a jury.

Colleen, just a comment on the idea that all of this released in the media can’t be relied upon. I would totally agree with your assessment in some cases, however in this case as I am sure most people are aware, the forensics and most other info is taken from LE official documents. The hits in the yard and trunk, the dna, the interviews about the odor, Casey’s, Cindy’s, George’s interviews, not made up by the media. Maybe it would be helpful if you looked at the actual documents. They do exist. For once it is not a figment of the media’s imagination. And Gypsy the FBI report most certainly does say there was a post morten hair band on the hair and that same hair had mitrochrondial dna similiar to Caylee or Casey. If you believe the FBI is lying , I can’t help you.
