People.com: Give us another J!

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tontitown, Ark., had their eighteenth child Thursday - Jordyn-Grace Makiya, who joins the rest of her J-named siblings.

Jordyn-Grace was born via C-section at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, weeks before her due date of Jan. 1. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 3 oz and was 20 inches long.

"Mother and baby are resting and doing well," says a rep for the Duggar family, whose crowded house is featured on the TLC network show 17 Kids & Counting.

The newest Duggar has a lot of names to keep straight.

The other kids - who range in age from 20 years to 17 months - are Joshua (who married Anna Keller in September and says he is looking forward to the "blessing of children" of his own), twins John-David and Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, twins Jeremiah and Jedidiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and Jennifer.

Their parents married when Michelle was 17 and Jim Bob was 19. (Her mother had to officially sign permission.) After birth-control pills were blamed for a miscarriage, the couple decided to throw them out. They've had a new baby approximately every 18 months since.

"What really works for me is swaddling a baby and snuggling up," Michelle told PEOPLE in an interview last year. "I love that time of just bonding and nursing a little baby. And, with a new baby, I realize that I don't need as much sleep as I used to think I did. You learn. This time goes by so quickly. I look at my older children and wonder where the time went."

A special on Jordyn-Grace's birth will air Dec. 22 at 10 p.m. on TLC.

This disturbs me! How do Jim-Bob and Michelle have time to conceive more kids. It’s almost disgusting. There is no way that these parents can give each of their children the amount of time and attention necessary. Just you wait, these kids will be our problem children of our future. Stop already!!! It’s not the 1800’s.

HOW CAN ANYONE SIT UP AND COMMENT ON ANYTHING THAT SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING?! YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THE OLD SAYIN SWEEP AROUND YOUR OWN FRONT DOOR, BEFORE YOU TRY TO SWEEP AROUND THEIRS. GOD HAS OBVIOUSLY BLESSED THEM ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE OF 18 KIDS SO IF THEY WANT A CHEERLEADING SQUAD AND A FOOTBALL TEAM THEY ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TOO. AND BUMP RATHER THE PEOPLE THEY STAY AROUND THEM CARE FOR THEM SO WHAT?!! MIND YOUR BUSINESS!!!!!!

A large family is a blessing. Who is to say how many children a family should have? Only God. The birth control mentality of our culture is widespread and more of a problem than one family with 18 beautiful children. Stop selfish contraception.

If you feel that the Lord blesses you each time there is nothing wrong with have as many children that he gives you. Glad that you can afford them,I have four and it is a struggle everyday, but they are the blessings that the Lord saw fit for me to have they are well mannered and well behaved not like most kids are these day. Always be gratful for whom and whatever the Lord gives you

Yeah I must say I am on both sides of the issue, though my opinion matters not, to each his own. On one hand, I am completely jealous because I am almost 30 and single so I have no kids because I can’t afford one on my own, and believe me, I would be the BEST mother EVER. On the other hand, I have always wanted a huge family, but I would NEVER add to the population like this when there are so many children in this world already without homes (i’ve always wanted the Jolie-Pitt type family). And what is the quality of life for these Duggar children? THey are seen as “freaks” by a lot of people, they do MORE than their fair share of taking care of the family, they never have time with friends and doing things outside of the family unit, and I find that very sad. Still, as I said, to each his own. We cannot force our will and morals on others.

I think that they are doing a wonderful job with there children. I watch the show and think there now 18 children are more well behaved then any other children you see on TV. I think that Mr and Mrs Duggar are doing a great job raising them to be well rounded, respectful children!! Well Done!!

haha JINGER what kind of name is that ?….second off…if they are so “in tune with God” and love children why don’t they adopt children who are suffering everyday. The mother is selfish and doesn’t want to grow up, she can’t understand the concept that time goes on and children grow up. Instead of spending and wasting all of the Earth’s resources (since thats what they are doing i.e. 3,000 dollar grocery bill) why don’t they GIVE BACK for a change.

look everyone should stop putting the Duggers down.It is their life and they are entitled to do what they want…Those who put them down are just jealous…

This family follows the teachings of a man named Bill Gothard. LOOK BILL GOTHARD up on the internet- creepy. They follow his teachings to a t. He runs a fake college/institute called Advanced Training Institute. They believe in arranged marriages, no tv, no birth control, obeying husbands, etc. They say the children have say about their future lives- but that is absolutely not true. They would be abandoned if they ever turned from this system. There is a lot of abuse in this organization. It is by all means a CULT- christian fundamentalist- although not polygamous like the mormons. It is a very scarey homeschool move across the country of ultra-wackoism. The clothes, the modest swimsuits, the engagement (Did you notice how the oldest boy is PROPOSING and he says, “come over here” to his future bride? demanding her around— please- some things you just can’t hide), I mean come on- what is this? Just NUTTTTTTTSSSSSSS!!!!!! The people making ANY KIND of POSITIVE statements about this are most likely part of this organization. They all stick up for each other- because their all just as strange as the next one.

“I look at my older children and wonder where the time went.” Yeah, you neglected them while you were pumping out more babies for them to take care of.

I saw the Duggers on TV the other day and their story is a mind blowing one but they have nothing to be ashamed about and should not be ridculed for their decsions. The children are very well behaved, look like they are well looked after and educated. Good Luck to them for 2009.

Looks like they’ve let some people out of headquarters as agents of promotion for the Duggar/Gothard cult. It just proves the irrationality of this thinking. My tip to the Duggars: READ THE WHOLE BIBLE— NOT JUST THE OLD TESTAMENT!
