People.com: Give us another J!

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tontitown, Ark., had their eighteenth child Thursday - Jordyn-Grace Makiya, who joins the rest of her J-named siblings.

Jordyn-Grace was born via C-section at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, weeks before her due date of Jan. 1. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 3 oz and was 20 inches long.

"Mother and baby are resting and doing well," says a rep for the Duggar family, whose crowded house is featured on the TLC network show 17 Kids & Counting.

The newest Duggar has a lot of names to keep straight.

The other kids - who range in age from 20 years to 17 months - are Joshua (who married Anna Keller in September and says he is looking forward to the "blessing of children" of his own), twins John-David and Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, twins Jeremiah and Jedidiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and Jennifer.

Their parents married when Michelle was 17 and Jim Bob was 19. (Her mother had to officially sign permission.) After birth-control pills were blamed for a miscarriage, the couple decided to throw them out. They've had a new baby approximately every 18 months since.

"What really works for me is swaddling a baby and snuggling up," Michelle told PEOPLE in an interview last year. "I love that time of just bonding and nursing a little baby. And, with a new baby, I realize that I don't need as much sleep as I used to think I did. You learn. This time goes by so quickly. I look at my older children and wonder where the time went."

A special on Jordyn-Grace's birth will air Dec. 22 at 10 p.m. on TLC.

I think that it is unbelievable the way people judge others lives. From what I have witnessed, the people who are judging the Duggars do not know anything about them and have never seen their show. Their children are VERY well behaved and respectful. They are brought up with morals and a sense of self-worth and responsibility. As for the person that said that the parents are teaching their kids that this is ok, if you have ever watched the show you would know that some of the children say they do not want kids and other say they only want one or two and others more, but it is their own right to be able to have however many children they choose. You people are worried about how many kids this family has being that they do not use drugs and their kids are health and loved and cared for, but there are people out there that are on drugs, having babies they do not even want, drug addicted and sick, not cared for or even neglected and just plain out murdered by their own parents and you have nothing to say about that. You are so concerned about this family getting “fixed” when their are children out there that have been taking away from their parents and are now ward of the state and in foster care that we as tax payers pay for while their parents are out there getting pregnant and having more babies that will probably end up in the system or dead also. These are the people that should be “fixed” permenantly. The children that do survive these worthless parents 9 chances out of 10 will become the uncivilized and anti social “victims” of their parents irresponsible lives. The Duggar family will never turn out to be the social misfits that I am referring to. Regardless of how they are doing it, which is in my mind is none of your business, they are bring up very educated, responsible, respectful children with a sense of morals that many of you uneducated or undereducated people that have left your rude comments will never have. To the Dugger family, keep doing what you do so well and do not listen to these ignorant people. You have a wonderful family that loves each other very much and will always be a strong support system to each other.

Ok Serioulsy, this is discusting… how can we not see that if everyone on the planet had 18 children it would be catastrophic. Where would we be then? In what world does a family need 18 children. Realize that if this trend continued, this woman would be responsible for bringing 5,832 people into the world in 40 years, that is, if her children had 18 children who had 18 children. Competely irresponsible and ignorant of the needs of the planet.

I am seriously disgusted that TLC has promoted this family. Since when do cult members become tv icons and celebrities?!?!?! This woman has a mental problem that needs to be addressed.

I can not believe none of you have anything in your own lives that don’t need to be jugded!!! Yet you all find so much time to judge someone you really know nothing about. NO, not everyone is having 18 babies JASON!!! But some parents want their big families. LEAVE THEM BE!!! It is THIER choice not OURS to judge!!!! You all need to get a life! I have one son whom I adore and was never able to have more. I would have loved to have had A LOT more but cancer kept that from happening. But to adopt is not for everyone!!! So stop trying to choose others lives or what path YOU think they should have taken…and they are NOT a CULT you IDIOTS!!!! or all the families in history would be too. Birth control is a choice and should not be forced on someone like in other countries…THIS IS AMERICA!!!! OR DI WE FORGET!!! I say who cares this is a well round family and none of these kids seem to be abused, on the news for killing someone. They are a happy family. Which is more then 60% of the children in this world can say. So if 18 can grow up and truely be happy then LEAVE THEM BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Child welfare needs to step in and stop all this. At first it might have been a blessing but now it’s all for money and attention! We the people are supporting them with our tax money. What about the woman who just had octuplets? That is more amazing than the Dugger people who keeps having kids for money. They enjoy all the attention. I feel sorry for the older kids who have to take care of the younger ones. Where’s their life like a norml child? They have to be tired of it no matter what the parents say. They need a normal teenage life to enjoy school and dances and ect..That’s all those children are learning. Have babies!! The parents need to be stopped. They are fame grabbers!

the mother does not take care of these kids! as the older ones get older they take care of the younger kids and so called mom takes all the glory! i agree with concerned.I hope the kids do not grow up thinking this is a normal life and you should keep having baby after baby. The kids need to go to a regular school and enjoy a normal life with other kids.I will never watch them on tv.

I have to say I was shocked myself at all their children but watching the show they very much practice what they preach and those children will make a positive influence on a clearly lost nation. I wish I had a stronger desire to raise my kids in a more conservative manner.

People need to chill out. There is nothing wrong with older siblings raising the younger ones. I’m the oldest of 5, and I learned more important life skills by helping with the younger ones than I ever could have with fewer siblings. The fact that they can have that many kids is amazing. The panicky naysayers needn’t worry- most women cannot physically have that many children.

If every parent put as much love and teaching into their one or two children, as the Duggars do, what a wonderful life they would have, no nanny 911. Way to go Duggar family. From a mom of seven.

These kind of folks are the reason the planet is falling apart. Stop having kids and eating up our worlds resources. You can have a big family without having 18 kids. This kind of irresponsible reproductive behavior is disgusting.

Oh my goodness— all the other cult members showed up on this board to defend their beliefs. Please people, you are all so obvious!

Its hard to see why people hide behind the phrase… for God or as many as GOd gives. The kids are loud, unruley, and obviously over worked by the parents pushing chores, and child care onto them. THey live in a small world only built by the two parents. I had to laugh when I heard the father say he tasted cold duck but spit it out… yah right. is that anything like smoked but didnt inhale? they are pushing that bare foot and prego is the thing to do. Ever hear of pulling out?

i agree with all who say it their life so butt out and get a life of your own. they can have as many ids as they want they aren’t hurting anyone and if they want to be on tv to show how a big family lives who cares they can say stop whenever they want to.
