Churches and synagogues are using GPS devices to prevent the Baby Jesus in their Nativity scenes from being stolen.

About 70 Florida locations have opted to take advantage of a security company's offer of free use GPS systems and security cameras to protect their displays from the growing number of holiday thefts.

"I suspect most of it is childish pranks," said attorney Mike Johnson of the Alliance Defense Fund. "Clearly, there are adults with an agenda to remove Christ from Christmas. But they tend to occupy themselves with the courts and courtroom of public opinion."

Religious institutions aren't the only ones taking advantage of the security system. Many private homeowners are planning on protecting their property as well.

"People are very security conscious, and this is simply a precaution," said Goldman, who will put a GPS on his menorah this year. "It's sad ... but it's the reality we're faced with."
