PiscesIllinois Governor Tried to Sell Obama's Senate Seat
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested after he attempted to abuse his power by selling President-elect Barack Obama's seat in the U.S. Senate.
U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald announced Tuesday that the governor tried to "auction off" the Senate seat "to the highest bidder."
Fitzgerald said that federal investigators put wiretaps on Blagojevich's campaign offices and his home phone. Conversations recorded determined that the governor was conspiring to sell or trade the vacant seat.
In Illinois, the governor selects a successor in the event that there is a mid-term vacancy.
