The Economy Killed Secret Santa

Guest blogger mom-on-the-edge: Be careful what you wish for...

I wished for a gift. That's right, a store-bought something from my husband wrapped in pretty paper with a fancy ribbon on top. Only, he put the kabosh on us exchanging presents this year because of the economy. How romantic.

And then I got this e-mail from his family...

"You are invited to participate in a Secret Santa Family Extravaganza!"

Date: 12-25-2008
Time: 6:00 AM
Gift Price: $100.00

One huuuuuundred dollars!!!!

Secret Santa usually means a coffee mug or a DVD. One hundred smackaroos!

And, my husband's name and my name were listed seperately. So, it would cost our family TWO HUNDRED BUCKS! Extravaganza was right. It was extravagant!

I'm not working. We have a baby. The baby needs a new winter coat, new shoes, food... What are they thinking? Don't they read the paper? Watch the news? Times are tough.

Oh my gosh, I sound like my husband. We can't exchange gifts this year. Especially not $100 gifts. I WISH his family understood that...

In the RSVP box asking if I'm participating, the answer will have to be no. Now who's the Grinch?
