Mom to Kanye: I'm Honored by Your Lateness

... Even though last night you were early.

Momlogic's Annie: I enjoyed my fourth time seeing legendary Kanye West in concert on Tuesday night. Say what you will about his personality -- but this guy has a reason to be cocky.

The rapper/producer whose latest album is full of songs he actually sings, was part of Power 106's Cali Christmas concert that was originally scheduled for Thursday night. Because of Kanye's schedule, they moved the date up by two days. I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but the superstar who headlines his own sold-out tours was not the headliner for this show. Hit-maker and future jailbird, T.I. followed West -- unsuccessfully. My theory is that Kanye asked T.I. to switch the concert date to accommodate his schedule -- T.I. agreed as long as HE could headline the show. Or maybe it was a lost coin toss -- who knows?

Remember the old story of "Great Balls of Fire" singer Jerry Lee Lewis setting his piano on fire because he was furious Chuck Berry was following him? Well, that's what Kanye did minus the piano, the fire and the 13-year-old wife.

He put on an amazing show full of heart, personality, uniqueness and plenty of anthem hits from all of his successful albums. During his performance of "Heartless" off of his latest album, "808's and Heartbreak" he talked about how he'd trade in his fame if he could get his mother back -- passionately implying fate was cruel to take her from him. She died last November due to complications from plastic surgery. In a perfect exchange, the audience was feeding off of him -- and he was feeding off of us.

So, when T.I. walked out touting that he was "king," ripping off his tank top and asking the women in the audience if they wore matching bras and panties for him, it was, to say the least, laughable. This is not just because his style of rap is harder. I've seen Ludacris, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lil' John, DJ Quik and even Too Short in concert as well. I have T.I.'s albums and I love his songs, but sometimes even great talents like T.I. need to know their place. I was NOT honored by his lateness.

This concert was incredible. Kanye was “on fire” consistently while performing his earliest hits with his brand new music. He is a star, he is a good son to his momma, dedicating songs, and precious personal moments to her during live shows. Thousands of audience members, moms included, take a moment and respect their relationship and his kind words about missing her. His ego might look overblown to a fair weather fan, but it’s certainly in check when paying tribute to the lady that gave him everything.
