School Staff in Trouble Over Inflatable Mattress Sex

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Associated Press: Several Richmond County educators are being reprimanded after officials uncovered a sex scandal involving teachers, coaches and the principal of an Augusta middle school.

Superintendent Dana Bedden says seven Spirit Creek Middle School faculty members have been implicated in a series of incidents that included daytime sexual encounters on an inflatable mattress in the school's public safety office.

No students were involved in any of the encounters, which came to light after a former teacher sent an e-mail about the allegations to school system leaders.

Denise Ogden resigned in November after her involvement in a love triangle that also cost former Principal Sharon McAlevy and former school board public safety officer Ronnie Collins their jobs.

It completely amazes that we all wonder why some children do the things they do. It has absolutely little to do with what they are exposed to at public/private school, but completely to do with what they are exposed to at home from the adults in there lives, so the people on here that are talking about everyone and calling them dumb because they home school there children, you should really step back and regroup. I am constantly hearing how public schools are bad. I have went to pubilc and private they both sucked. I did not hear anything about students seeing this happened. So if u are the idols that are seating here and your children do not know anything about sex. Then homeschool, private, or pubilc you are the ones not teaching your kids. Do not put your short comings on the school system.

The fact of the matter here is that we do not screen our applicants correctly, yeah I know back in the day during one room schools, had Aunt May from down the road who taught our children. Maybe that is how it should be now but it’s not. It has little to do with public or private. The things that happen in the schools today happen everywhere, you got the teachers trying to get nookie from the students or just trying to get a little afternoon delight from the other teachers. Not to mention the violence and drugs. The bottom line is that we as parents have to prepare our children for what is out there ( age appropriately) There should be No slap on the wrist for the teachers or anyone for that matter. They usually get shuffled around to a different district and the same thing happens again. I’m with the other person on here the certifications should be stripped and harsher criminal punishment. They may have not abused a child, but inappropriate behavior as this is not acceptable in any environment where there are children around Middle school or older.

Whether the school is public, private or home, the teachers are supposed to be positive examples for scholl kids. These school faculty people should have shown respect for others and chose to have their sexcapades in their own privacy.

hp- What does home school and Jehovah’s Witnesses have to do with each other? How can the homeschooling community be compared to this group of people. OH I know they dare to be different. They dare to look for the truth rather then be led along by what ever is put in their face. They study and research. I guess that would be a good comparison.

I dont see why people are messing with public school or whatever, Its a parents choice as to where they’re going to send their kids but I’m glad for a free education, because its the only one I was going to get. It’s that or nothing, for a lot of kids who dont have parents who can homeschool and certainly not the luxary private school. I went to a pretty good school district where I had a lot of options. There was alot of bad, but a lot of it depends on the kids you raise and the choises they make. I made pretty good choices and my high school years were fine. I know this article has nothing to do with the pros and cons of public school. But, you shouldnt go looking at an article of one school, then critizise every other school in the country. Maybe what you should be doing is helping your schools reach your standards if theyre not there. Those kids are the future of your town, so maybe you should be trying to make it so that your town has a future Btw, I know my grammar is off but I’m very, very, very, tired.

I am 76 years young..I went to all the schools you are talking about p-lus one that you failed to mention…this was the best and only one that realy got me on the right track……reform school, learned all about life, the pros and the cons, sex, everything.became an electronis eng.adopted 2 kids, one a ceo oflarge co. and the other a very fruitfull life. Can they teach all this in home schooling? When they move on into the world, they are in for a rude awakening.ADIOS

My point exactly why are we changing the subject. These teachers did something wrong and were very bold about it. They felt no shame because it was a everyday thing for them. They should fire all of them and possibly zero-base the school for the good of the community.

It never fails in a love triangle, somebody always gets left out and when that happens, the green eyed monster arrives. We’re all human & yes it can happen to anybody. As far as having sex at the school…thats a fiasco waiting to happen. My suggestion, keep the urges out of the classroom & in the hotel in the next county!

By just speaking to a child, I can tell who has been home schooled. Most of them are way ahead of the curve.

I think both public school and home school are valid. My husband and I were both educated in the public school system and he has a Ph.D, I have my Masters. I work in the public school system so I would not be the first to knock it. We work hard there. I do see equal advantages to both. What bothers me is people who bash other people’s ideas for no reason. Every person must choose for themselves and no situation is created equally. There are some great public schools and some bad ones, there are great private schools and some bad ones, and there are great homeschooling situations and bad ones. I know I could never homeschool my child though, I would not want to deprive them of learning from and growing from even negative experiences. I was raised in an overprotective situation and it did not benefit me, I think if I am adjusted at all it is because of some of the trials I learned through in public education. So maybe I think public education IS best. That being said, I would still not want a kid sent to a crappy school just to “learn” from it. But being too protective does not benefit children either, in any way.

I agree with the last post. FIRE ALL WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THAT MESS! As for homeschooling that is a personal choice.

Oh, I forgot to add. Tebow is from Gainesville, my home town. But there was also another successful quarterback, Doug Johnson on the Gator football team a couple of years ago(he may not have won the Heisman though). He was educated in the public school system (he actually rode my bus in middle school :)

camelia made a point: a lot of folks are not able to afford to take their children to a school of their choice if they ever wanted to. they have to bring them to the public school because the government will pay (using the same money the parents paid in taxes). if it is the responsibility of the parents to look after their children’s education why not then having them choose the environment on which that will take place? the government will still hold the responsibility of establishing and supervising the education parameters and approving educational curriculums and schools. the money is not the problem. it may be on the social and cultural system under which the national education is established

—“When i think of home schooling i think of the jahova witness cult. - hb” HB you do not know what you are talking about. First, Jehovah’s witnesses are NOT a cult! Read a dictionary! Second, home schooling has nothing to do with that faith. Many, many people of varius faiths (or no faith) homeschool their children for various reasons and the vast majority of them get a much better education. The musical group Nickle Creek were all homeschooled and they are very talented and educated young people and that is only one example. As for socialization…yeah stick them in a “traditional” school setting so they can be bullied or join a gang or some other form of peer pressure or danger. I would much rather see children in activities where there is more structure and protection. Whether it is a dance class or sport or just parents who organize group activites with their children. Socialization and school are not mutually exclusive.

hb- Jehovah’s Witnesses send their kids to public school.. don’t be so ignorant and judgemental of things you don’t bother to understand or educate yourself about.
