An English teacher was controversially suspended after punishing her tardy students by forcing them to do pushups, jumping jacks or tell jokes in front of the class.

The 11- and 12-year-old offenders were reportedly giving a list of punishments and forced to choose their punishments from that list.

A National Union for Teachers spokesperson said that the punishment was an "overreaction."

One anonymous parent said that the students didn't feel that the punishments were inappropriate. "It's ridiculous. The kids thought it was fun," the parent said.
