Teen Lies About Age, Sends Two Men to Jail

Monday, December 22, 2008

Two men have been sent to jail after a 13-year-old girl lied about her age and marital status on MySpace.

Alisha Dean stated on her MySpace account that she was 19-years-old and divorced.

Morris Williams, 22, and Darwin Mills, 24, have both been criminally charged for having sex with the minor.

Williams claims that when he suspected Dean wasn't the age that she claimed to be, he approached her parents and was told the truth. Her father then notified authorities and had him arrested.

Williams was sentenced to one year in jail followed by five years of probation.

Mills was sentenced to five years in prison.

Wow. Is that a picture the girl here? Because she does look mighty young, therefore I would be suspicious, which one young man was. But arrested? And to actually be convicted? I don’t know. I have a daughter as well as a son and I’m sure I’d be mad at everyone, but I don’t really know how I’d react in that situation. Does strike me as unfair though. I wonder if the parents find her totally innocent in this? Hmmm.

I’m sorry, but if she is old enough to lie and put all that stuff on her myspace, where are her consequences. Yes she looks young, but I WOULD never have done that. Teens are just out of control, and I’m sorry, where were her parents? Real easy to have someone arrested after your teen lies. That just gives all teen girls and parents a bad rap all together. UGH! And yes I can say where were her parents. I have a tween and a 6 yr old. carole

These poor guys are probably going to be stuck on the sex offender list now while she gets off free and clear.

MMmhh what about the law protecting children as much from themselves as from others, or doesn;t that count. When it comes down to it she is a child. While I don’t know the particulars about this case, I do know that the arguments contained in the piece are commonplace and unfortunately there is too much sympathy for the poor men who have been duped by some brazen teen (said with irony). When my daughter was 13 (shes now nearly 17) she looked older however it would have been quickly apparent that she was in fact 13 years old.

She does look pretty developed for her age. And since the guy went to the parent to find out the truth i don’t think he should have got in trouble. I mean come on if he had really set out to sleep with a minor he wouldn’t have been dumb enough to go to the father.

I agree with N. I remember coming home one time from vacay and my then 20 year old brother was laying on the couch with this girl. My dad and I pulled him outside and I was like I hope you checked her ID. She looked sooooooo young. But she was 18. Seriously, sad but maybe guys should start checking for a drivers license.

you know it’s sad when other people get punished for the wrong doing of someone else. if we would start punishing the teens since they are the one causing the crime, alot of this would stop. in this case the girl should be punished not the two guys unless they knew before having sex she was under age.

Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor “Any action by an adult that allows or encourages illegal behavior by a person under the age of 18, or that places children in situations that expose them to illegal behavior…” The myspace page has been shown to put the child in potential harm in at least two recorded case. Key phrases being, “Any action by an adult that allows or encourages” and “places children in situations that expose them to illegal behavior.” Her myspace page put her into situations that exposed her to illegal behavior. As well potential danger. Since the parents were aware of the myspace page for more than a year, that in and of itself makes them liable to criminal charges. (not to mention neglect) In addition to the fact that they knowingly permit her to do other things that put her into potential danger after the first time. I could even be so bold as to say the very Judge in both cases is guilty of “Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor” because he was aware of her myspace page and did nothing about it. Which not only puts the child at additional risk, but also allowed it to happen a second time, making the parents and the first Judge in whole responsible for making a second time possible. If it wasn’t for the Media posting her picture and links to her Myspace page there would probably have been a third which again raises such questions.
