American Idol is Back!

Idol fanatics are finally going to get their fix -- the hit show is returning with a humongous premiere.
The eighth season of "American Idol" begins tonight at 8/7 PM on Fox. With a four hour premiere airing over two days, there's bound to be some exciting (and hilarious) auditions.
The show kicks off with hopefuls trying out in Phoenix, Arizona. On Wednesday, they'll scope out the talent in Kansas City, Missouri.
A fourth judge, respected songwriter/producer Kara DioGuardi, will be critiquing the contestants' singing abilities alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. It will be interesting to see if she can hold her own against Simon. Blogs report that Kara said the male finalists are very strong competitors this season.
Is "American Idol" must-see programming for your family?

Where was American Idol tonight? I read “the Cow Palace” however, it looked like a hotel on a hill overlooking downtown San Francisco. And it had a glass elevator. Any thoughts?
