ANOTHER Female Teacher Has Sex with Student

On Friday, we told you about Christine A. McCallum, the married elementary school teacher who had sex with a 13-year-old student 300 times.

Here we go again!

Iowa police said Tuesday that they arrested a high school teacher on a sexual exploitation charge. Police said Erin Rohwer, 27, is accused of having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male student.

The teen was a student in her Dowling High School class, police said. The school's Web site lists Rohwer as the Head of the English department.

Rohwer was arrested at her home. She posted a $5,000 bond and was released.

The charge is a class D Felony carrying a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a fine of $750 to $7,500.

Too bad for Rohwer she doesn't live in Washington. As of today, Washington state law no longer bars teachers from having sex with 18-year-old students.

That's the decision of a three-judge panel of the Washington Court of Appeals, which on Tuesday ordered the dismissal of a case brought against Hoquiam High School's former choir teacher.

The teacher, Matthew Hirschfelder, was charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. He challenged a judge's refusal to dismiss his case. The appeals court unanimously agreed that the state law is vague, and that the Legislature only intended to forbid sexual contact between school employees and students who are 16 or 17.

Hirschfelder was 33 in 2006, at the time of the alleged relationship with the 18-year-old young woman. He resigned the next year.

Your title is EXTREMELY unfair, and it needs to be changed. A sexual exploitation charge IS NOT a rape charge. He is 18 and so (assuming it was consensual sex, which I’m sure it was) it was not rape. She is being charged with sexual exploitation because it’s against the rules to have sex with a student. She’s wrong for having making the mistake of having sex with a student, but let’s not make it out to be worse than it is. She didn’t “victimize” him, she had sex with a consenting adult male.

I have to agree with the others here. The male was 18, therefore a legal adult, capable of making his own decisions. While it may not have been the most ethical decision for the teacher to have sex with the student, remove the student-teacher relationship, and this is nothing more than an older woman having sex with a younger, but legal adult man.
