Man Refuses to Stop Hawking Caylee Dolls

The outraged public demands a novelty toy maker stop selling Caylee Sunshine dolls -- so he just changes the name.

The backlash against the creator of a Caylee Anthony Sunshine doll wasn't enough to stop the owner of Showbiz Promotions from marketing the dolls... he simply changed the name.

"We polled school children, and they picked their favorite name for the dolls," says Jaime Salcedo -- the owner of Showbiz Promotions, the company that also brought you the Michael Vick chew toy.

Apparently, this "study" was put together quickly -- conducted just yesterday, in fact. The names chosen by the local school children? Sally, Hope, and Gracie.

Salcedo also claims he still has many requests for the Caylee doll but has told people they were discontinued. He insists 100% percent of the profits will go to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, but is quick to point out that "they have not sponsored or partnered with us. That would be unethical."

(And what would HE know about being unethical?)

Although the dolls have changed names, the CayleeDoll.com website hasn't. It's still called a Caylee Tribute Site. The only discernible difference between the Caylee doll and the Hope, Gracie, and Sally dolls are the names on the dolls' T-shirts. The "new" dolls still sing "You Are My Sunshine," the same song Caylee sings in that heart-breaking video in her kitchen."That song is not owned by Caylee," Salcedo callously insists. "My mother used to sing that when I used to go to bed."

Oh, that makes it ALL okay!

The past 48 hours has netted Showbiz Promotions 500 angry emails -- mostly fueled,  says Salcedo, by Nancy Grace, who slammed the entrepreneur on her show. But even Salcedo has his limits on what he considers poor taste. His reaction to the Casey Anthony voodoo doll currently for sale on eBay? "This whole case is being tried by the media," he says. "They should just wait until the outcome in court."

Do you still think Caylee-inspired dolls are offensive even if the dolls are named Hope, Gracie and Sally? Comment below.

• In other Casey Anthony news, Anthony's defense team is going after the prosecutors in her murder trial. Jose Baez filed an emergency motion late Tuesday. In it, he claims the prosecution is violating Casey's 6th Amendment right to counsel of her choice. Baez bases his motion on the fact that someone with the State Attorney's Office recently complained to the Florida Bar about him. Baez claims prosecutors are trying to taint him and are interfering with Casey's defense. Baez says the state attorney's complaint was egregious and prejudicial. He wants to put prosecutors on the stand to explain themselves. A legal analyst told Orlando station WFTV that's not likely to happen. Stay tuned.

I think the Hypocrisy of CNN has finally been exposed. The media is pushing Mr Anthony to suicide. None of this is because of the Doll. Even articles like this, with journalist opinion interjected, is shameless. report the news, we dont want your opinion. We the American people want justice . The American Constitution requires it. I pray this women did not do these heinous crime, but if she did the American justice system along with her creator will get the final word. A voodoo doll is far less offensive than a Doll Who looks nothing like Caylee Anthony. Get a backbone and stand for what you believe and not for what CNN or the media tells you. I am disgusted by the coverage of this story. I will buy a HOPE doll, and give to Charity, in HOPEs that Americans like you, will stop feeding like vultures on the horrific details of this case . You and the media are far more repulsive to me than A Sunshine Doll. Think about this:I am guessing that the writer of this column, “MOM LOGIC” , has children. I am also guessing she would not mind Nancy Grace dragging the details of her dead 3 year old through the mud., along with the rest of the media. …just stirring the pot…

Oh the irony…

All the bloggers and media jackals, who have been cashing in on the Caylee case themselves to garner more viewers, are outraged. How dare somebody (else) try to cash in on the death of this beautiful little baby girl…

MomLogic has published over 30 ‘articles’ about the case, each one laden with revenue generating ads. So MomLogic, to which charity are you donating all of your proceeds from your articles about the case? Nancy, the hag, Grace has dedicated hundreds of hours to this case - which charity is she and CNN donating those proceeds to?

The lat two comments are spot on. The Hypocrisy stinks to high heaven. I have more to add..At least this company is giving all the money to charity. While I can’t afford to own a doll, I certainly will by an awareness bracelet for $3.00. The only reason this article was written was to feed like a sleazy vulture on the story and increase readers, and sell advertising. I challenge the author to tell us his/her name and give his/her entire paycheck to Charity. I challenge Mom Logic to do the same. The exploitation of children by the media has gone on long enough. Hats off to the creators of the Caylee Doll. They are accomplishing something. Final words to the author: Your parenting skills must be horrific if you behave like this in print.

How about this headline…

“MomLogic Refuses to Stop Hawking Caylee Trivialities”

This guy is just sickening. How can you profit from such a tragedy. 100% of his profits. I call B.S.

Mom Logic exploiting right along with the rest of the media has no logic

Linn January 28, 2009, 11:44 PM

Wow, finally some comments that are spot on. Well except for Mom Logic who has had little logic the entire time except for quotes occasionally that are correct.

Why does anyone think they should be “selling” this story and adding innuendo and tripe. And yes, when your site is filled with adds you are selling your view of the story.

Shame on you and the doll seller.

The maker of this doll is a total SLEEZEBALL. He was going to give “some” of the proceeds to charity and keep the rest of the money to himself. What an exploitive creep!
