Women with high levels of a sex hormone may be more inclined to cheat on their partners, according to a new University of Texas study.
Psychologists Kristina Durante and Norman Li discovered that women with high levels of the hormone oestradiol were likelier to explore infidelity.
The study states that the results aren't related to one-night stands, but suggest that the female is trying to find a better partner. Durante and Li concluded that women "may have fewer reasons to be committed to any particular partner if higher quality potential mates are available."
Oestradiol is also associated with facial attractiveness, large breasts, and low waist-to-hip ratio.
Some researchers say that men have an evolved response to pick up the presence of this hormone.
