What Was for Lunch on Inauguration Day?

Yesterday, after Barack Obama took the oath of office as our 44th President of the United States, he was escorted Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol to attend the traditional Inaugural Luncheon. Dating back to 1897, when the Senate Committee on Arrangements first gave a luncheon for President McKinley and several other guests at the U.S. Capitol, the cuisine traditionally reflects the home states of the President and Vice President. (And yes! There was wine!)

First Course:
Seafood Stew
Duckhorn Vineyards 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Second Course:
A brace of American birds (pheasant and duck)
served with sour cherry chutney and
molasses sweet potatoes
Goldeneye 2005 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley
Third Course:
Apple cinnamon sponge cake and sweet cream glace
Korbel Natural "Special Inaugural Cuvee"California Champagne
The menu more reflected the inaugural chairwoman. We bought the same wine to celebrate as well. If the next four years are as good as the wine, we are in for treat.
